Wakefield glamour photography workshop

I was booked for a 1-2-1 glamour photography workshop today which I ran from the studio at Durkar. Becky Jane was the model for the day and, although it was the first time I’ve worked with her, we got and well and created some super images for the client. I began with some simple shots in the white corner, very typical of the lads mag glamour images before moving to the French doors and creating some lovely atmospheric boudoir images. I finished off with a glamour fashion shoot in the lounge and dining area of the studio which gave us a great set of images to finish with. I have several more 1-2-1 shoots coming up and if you are interested in attending something similar, just call me on 01924 22900 for a chat.

West Yorkshire product photographer: Precision Badges

As a West Yorkshire product photographer I get commissioned to shoot quite a range of items but the session I’ve just finished was one of the toughest assignments yet! I was tasked by Precision Badges of Harrogate to photograph over 100 pieces for their new website – how difficult can that be I thought! I should have realised when, during the initial enquiry they said they’d had several photographers try and fail already, that it might be more difficult than first imagined. The main problem is that many of the badges are small and they are also shiny, so it means working at high magnification and trying to limit specular highlights! The other problem is that gold lettering will look silver if not lit correctly and silver lettering will look black!  To cut a long story short, it took a few trial runs but eventually I managed to pull it off and now have another satisfied client :¬)

Portrait lighting demonstration Steampunk style

Tonight I gave another of my portrait lighting demonstrations at Wakefield Camera Club using three steampunk models. I first met two of theses ladies, Laura and Julie, when I did a lighting demo at Bolsover Camera Club last autumn and they were organised as models by Bolsover. By chance, they know someone in our club too and he’d also organised for them to come along tonight with local steampunk girl Louise. It’s a small world and in between all this, Laura has also booked me to shoot her steampunk wedding next year so that’s one for you to look out for on the blog!

Tonight though, I kept things simple and used two lighting set-ups, one with studio flash and the other with a single constant light. This allowed for two shoots simultaneously and kept the models and the members busy. We finished off with a set using all three girls light with a combo of constant lights and flash which meant that several photographers could shoot at once. As tonight’s meeting clashed with the Photography Show at the NEC, there weren’t as many members as usual which meant everyone got more time with the girls and even I got to have a shoot as I am normally too busy answering questions and explaining such things as the exposure triangle! Here are a few of my favourite shots from the night.

Wakefield commercial photographer: MJMC Group

Today saw me working locally in Wakefield creating images for the new website of structural engineering company MJMC Group. The brief was to create headshots of the directors plus a few incidental shots of the technicians using the CAD computers and other workstations that could be used as filler images on the website. Business management director Michelle, who commissioned the shoot, wanted clean backgrounds to the headshots and also thought it might be appealing to have them as B&W images. With this in mind,  I used a white paper but lit it to 20% grey for a subtle background and I’ve presented a few of them here as mono images. The soft grey background means they will look good in colour too if they decide to go that route.

If you are looking for a local Wakefield commercial photographer to produce some creative images for your website, just give me a call on 01924 229800 to discuss.

Woolley Hall wedding photographer: Adam & Priscila

Woolley Hall wedding photographer: Adam and Priscila are to marry at Woolley Hall in April and today we met up for a pre-wedding shoot and planning meeting ahead of the big day. I first met Adam when I was  wedding photographer to his sister Louise who also got married at Woolley Hall around 3 or 4 years ago now. Priscila hails from Brazil and there a few of her friends and relatives heading over for the wedding a good few of whom don’t speak English so it will be a fun wedding with me gesticulating wildly at the guests in an effort to marshal them around. The weather seems to be picking up a bit of late so I am hoping it won’t be too much of a shock to their hot Latin blood when they arrive.

We chose to meet in Wakefield for an urban themed shoot as most of the local parks are just so wet and muddy after the record rainfall we’ve been experiencing this past month and, although dry, it was cloudy and windy and Priscila was in need of a Costa’s hot chocolate after the shoot :¬) Here is a selection from the shoot and once again, I chose to shoot the majority with the little X Pro-1 using the 35mm f/1.2 and 60mm f/2.4 macro lenses.

Wakefield commercial photographer: Palmer & Duncan vets

I was back in Ossett today for the second part of my shoot at Palmer & Duncan vets. You may have seen in an earlier blog post that they were looking for a Wakefield commercial photographer to shoot some images for their new website and kindly commissioned me for the job. Today’s shoot was along similar lines as the first one where we created some informal portraits of the staff with their own pets as well as making some great images of the daily life at the practice. This time I also got to photograph vet Emma operating on Bruno, a Great Dane the size of a small horse, Christine performing a dew claw removal and X-raying Lottie the black lab as well as feline dental surgery and a raft of other minor medical issues. The one thing I noticed is that everyone at the practice really does like animals and the care and attention they gave each patient is second to none so, if you’re in or close to Ossett, you couldn’t do better than take your pet here. Have a look at their old website (PDvets) and make sure to check back soon and see the new version with some of these images :¬)
