Foxcote Manor on the NYMR

A shoot packed day today starting with a 5:00am alarm to head off to Goathland on the North Yorkshire Moors to board a chartered steam train for some early morning atmospheric shots. You have to believe me when I say that I do not own an anorak! I know nothing about steam trains, nor do I really care, I just enjoy photographing them in the landscape. I do, however, have to admit that there is something nostalgic about these engineering marvels and also, with some engines at least, grace and beauty. Today we had Foxcote Manor, a GWR 7800 class engine (I Googled it!!), towing goods wagons just for the shoot. Once everyone had boarded the guard’s van we set off along the track from Goathland looking for location where the rising sun was just beginning to hit the tracks and also where there was a bit of an incline so that the train would throw out as much ‘clag’ as possible for effect in the pictures. Having found a location, we all jumped off the train, readied the cameras and waited for the train to back down the line and then run at us full steam ahead! This process was repeated several times at different spots along the track. There’s not a great deal of time for the shots as we had to clear the lines by 09:30 in readiness for the first of the day’s run of the scheduled NYMR trains, but I’m happy with a few images from the shoot. Thanks to Matt and the crew for organising the day and for everyone helping to make me an honory anorak for just a few hours at least. Here’s a selection that may appeal to the inner anorak in you :¬)

Andy & Nikki pre-wedding shoot

We decided that if we didn’t shoot Andy and Nikki today ahead of their October Wentbridge House wedding, we might not get round to it before the big day. So, despite a dark sky and rain showers, we went ahead and met at Newmillerdam for the pre-wedding meet and shoot. However, it was far warmer than it looked and as we finished the shoot, the clouds parted and the sun came out and we basked in 20dg heat and sunshine while having a beer at the Dam Inn and going through the details. Despite saying they were nervous, Andy and Nikki were very relaxed in front of the camera and if they are like this on the day at Wentbridge House, we should get some great images! Here are some from the shoot. Oh! And it was nice to have a couple roughly the same height once again ;¬)

Steve & Sarah’s wedding at The Ashes, Staffordshire

Back at The Ashes in Staffordshire today for the first time in a while, this time to shoot with Sarah & Steve. Regular blog followers will remember from the pre-wedding shoot that I had a little bit of trepidation about this gig given the difference in size between the couple – Steve is around 6’4″ while Sarah is around 4’9″. Holy height differences Batman!!  Weather wise it was roughly the same as the last time I was there with threatening skies and a few spots of rain; I was preying for no rain as I knew I wanted to be able to get them sat down briefly so that at they’d appear in the same shot in at least a few pictures ;¬) In the end it all turned out fine and I got some images I’m really pleased with and I hope they will be too. The couple both got ready in the Moat House Hotel in Stoke before heading up to The Ashes at Endon 4 miles away in the wedding cars while the guests all headed up to the venue on a vintage bus. Kudos to the groomsmen for bringing along a box for Sarah to stand on during the ceremony, it saved my bacon :¬) Here is a slideshow for those with a PC, Android or other none Apple device and I’ll add some stills for the unfortunate iPhone users who will probably not be able to see the show. Check out Facebook to for some stills later today.

Excite Clothing catalog shoot

New clients Excite Clothing were in the studio with me today to shoot the first of the product range for their new online clothing store. Directors Callum and Claire dropped by with enough clothes to fill an M&S distribution warehouse and how they got it all in the Golf along with rails and steamers I’ll never know! Callum brought models Debbi and Emma and I supplied Dannii after Callum had spotted her on my blog and we all worked hard to get through around 100 outfits in the 8-10 range. Future shoots will include the larger sizes, plus sizes, kids sizes and footwear. A good shoot but I have to confess to needing a beer by the end of it :¬o These images are just a few of what we shot and judging by Dannii’s reaction to each outfit, Excite are probably onto a winner :¬) Everything was done on a white infinity curve to emphasise the product rather than the models but hopefully soon we will be shooting some impact shots for the front of the website when we can be more creative and shoot on location.

Simon, Diane and baby Charlotte

How time flies! Just over 9 months ago, Diane and Simon were at the studio for a baby bump shoot and today they were back with baby Charlotte. Charlotte had had an unusually big sleep prior to coming to the studio which meant there were no tears or tantrums, just a full o’ beans baby which just makes my job a lot easier :¬) Here are just a few from the shoot as a sneek peak as I’ve not time to edit at the moment and another full studio day tomorrow!

To book in for your baby shoot, just call 01924 229800 to fix a time and date.

Geoff & Marian’s diamond wedding anniversary

Left the studio and went straight up to Ossett to photograph Geoff and Marian Carr’s diamond wedding anniversary which means that 6oyrs ago yesterday they tied the knot!  I can imagine the wedding photography we shoot today is far removed from what these guys would have experienced! None of the getting ready, the bridal portraits and certainly not the first dance! I started with a few formals of the couple using a black infinity curve lit with three Bowens 500c heads, augmented with a bit of fill and coloured gels from a couple of speedlights. After the buffet tea, I shot Geoff and Marian with all their friends and family and also with the original bridal party which, unfortunately meant no best man or chief bridesmaids as both have passed away, but it did include a pageboy in his 60s :¬)
