Lyndsay is a York based actor and circus performer who was looking for a Yorkshire headshots photographer to create some natural headshots that captured her personality and style. Her internet searches brought her to my site and, liking the images she saw there, Lyndsay booked in and drove over from York for the shoot.  The headsahots are needed to accompany an application for a job as a TV presenter with one of the major networks so we needed some great images that really show Lyndsay’s happy and natural expressons as well as her captivating smile. I decided to shoot a set on a white curve but, rather than light the background, I let it fall to around 20% grey. Then. by adjuasting the white-balance, I also colour shifted it the background towards blue while keeping the skin tones natural. This is just a neat little trick to add colour to a background without actually having to do anything in post..

After shooting a selection of high key images, I then changed to a black background for a more low key look as I often think these look great in black and white. Using a simple three light set-up, we quickly got another set of images for her to choose from before finishing the session with a couple of full length shots on the white curve. Being a performer, Lyndsay was a natural in front of the camera and I think you will agree that shows in the images and I am pleased with what we created.

Location portrait photographer down on the farm

location portrait photographer Yorkshire

A couple of years ago, Sue and John were looking for a location portrait photographer to go to their farm near Barnsley to create some family portraits of all the children belonging to their brothers and sisters. Now that the family is growing and there is talk of one moving to New Zealand and others to university etc, Sue thought it was time to shoot an updated set of photos before it became impossible to get everyone together. Sue’s farm is located pretty centrally for all the relatives to travel to from Leicester and Northallerton so that’s where we met once again for the shoot. The weather was pretty cold and grim, so we decided to shoot in the large grain store which had an open front and was just a bit less muddy than the rest of the farmyard! We used a large, freshly washed tractor as a backdrop and brought in a couple of large bales to use as seats. Lighting was achieved using four flash heads with the key light coming from a large 500w monobloc with a large softbox and running from a travel pack.

We did various combinations of the family groups as well as the whole lot together and then we moved down to one of the sheep folds for another set of images to finish with. Here is a selection of the images we created and if you’d like to book me for your location shoot, just call the studio on 01924 229800

Family portrait photographer Wakefield: With Sarah and James over from Canada for a couple of weeks with granddaughter Zoe, it seemed the perfect time to capture a family portrait session before the trio headed back across the Atlantic. So today the family were in the studio with both sets of grandparents and brother Patrick for a quick lifestyle shoot on a white curve. Zoe pretty much played ball and when the going got tough, her obsession with all things shiny and technical saved the day. Her excitement at getting her hands on a phone was absolutely palpable! I think we managed to shoot most combos in the hour or so we were in the studio and here are just a few from the session.

Event photographer Wakefield | Event photographer Leeds | West Yorkshire event photographer

Kirklees Active Leisure booked me as their West Yorkshire event photographer to cover their annual awards and dinner at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield. The evening was to present the annual awards to the staff of Kirklees Active Leisure centres from all across the region so there was a good attendance with around 230 staff at the dinner. My brief was to capture shots of the guests arriving and socialising  and then, following the dinner, the awards presentation. The latter part gave me some real problems as a photographer due to the large white projector screen on the stage behind the award winners and presenters and also the size of the very large dark room. However, I think I managed most shots

Wakefield commercial photographer | Commercial Photography West Yorkshire

Beaumont Legal commissioned me once again as their Wakefield commercial photographer to capture some press and promotional images of the Lord Chancellor and Minister for Justice Chris Grayling, who was in Wakefield to present certificates to some of Beaumont’s graduates. My brief was to capture shots of the minister with the Beaumont partners on arrival and then the presentation of the certificates. This was to be followed by a Q&A session with three journalists during which I was to get some candid shots and then finally, the minister addressed a gathering of local business people along with Andrea Jenkyns, prospective Conservative MP for Morley and Outwood.

I went with a shoot through for the shots to make sure I got as much light into the background as I could and had the luxury of adding a kicker light during the interview with the journalists but thereafter, I was resigned to bounce flash as there were just too many folks in the room for the minister’s speech and setting up a flash stand was bound to have ended in disaster.

Commercial photographer West Yorkshire | Fizzco lighting installation

For the last few years I have been shooting some of the amazing Christmas lighting installations that go up in the shopping malls around the country at this time of year. As a Wakefield commercial photographer, I enjoy the challenges of working and lighting on location and the Christmas lights have always been a good challenge as it involves working with different light sources – tungsten, daylight, fluorescent to name but a few. This year I have been lucky enough to be commissioned by another lighting installation team, Fizzco Projects, and they recently booked me to shoot some images of them installing the lights at Crystal Peaks shopping centre in Sheffield. I arrived on site at 18:30 just as the entire contents of a large articulated lorry full of lighting and decorations had been carried into the shopping mall. After the safety brief, it was all hands on deck for the installation and teams of fitters assembled seasonal decorations and handed them on to yet more guys who went round the mall fitting them into place.

The main centrepiece was a huge affair and had to be hoisted into the atrium and suspended high over the escalators and food hall. To do this, a team of specialist rope access climbers were employed to set up rigging and a pulley system which was then used to haul the decoration into place. I’m sure most of us have no idea how much effort goes into installing the Christmas decorations in a shopping mall, I think it’s a chore putting up the tree in our lounge! Believe me, these guys worked hard and all night long to get the installation fitted and tidied up before the shoppers arrived back the next day. I left round about 01:00hrs and they were still going strong! Here are a few images from the shoot. If your office is lacking sparkle and requires some Christmas pazzaz, have a look at the Fizzco Projects site
