Commercial photographer West Yorkshire | Fizzco lighting installation
For the last few years I have been shooting some of the amazing Christmas lighting installations that go up in the shopping malls around the country at this time of year. As a Wakefield commercial photographer, I enjoy the challenges of working and lighting on location and the Christmas lights have always been a good challenge as it involves working with different light sources – tungsten, daylight, fluorescent to name but a few. This year I have been lucky enough to be commissioned by another lighting installation team, Fizzco Projects, and they recently booked me to shoot some images of them installing the lights at Crystal Peaks shopping centre in Sheffield. I arrived on site at 18:30 just as the entire contents of a large articulated lorry full of lighting and decorations had been carried into the shopping mall. After the safety brief, it was all hands on deck for the installation and teams of fitters assembled seasonal decorations and handed them on to yet more guys who went round the mall fitting them into place.
The main centrepiece was a huge affair and had to be hoisted into the atrium and suspended high over the escalators and food hall. To do this, a team of specialist rope access climbers were employed to set up rigging and a pulley system which was then used to haul the decoration into place. I’m sure most of us have no idea how much effort goes into installing the Christmas decorations in a shopping mall, I think it’s a chore putting up the tree in our lounge! Believe me, these guys worked hard and all night long to get the installation fitted and tidied up before the shoppers arrived back the next day. I left round about 01:00hrs and they were still going strong! Here are a few images from the shoot.
