Alexis and Karim at Newmillerdam

The sky was looking quite threatening as I met up with Alexis and Karim at Newmillerdam to go through their plans for the big day at the end of the month. However, it reamined dry though very dark and overcast but we managed a pre-wedding photoshoot before going through the itinerary for their wedding day. Alexis and Karim will marry at Wakefield Town Hall before heading to Leeds to Sam’s Chop House for the wedding breakfast and then ending up at the Hotel Metropol for the evening reception. Transport between the venues will be on vintage buses so it should be a fun day for us all!

David Gawthorpe Butchers Denby Dale

Today I was shooting some meaty images for David Gawthorpe’s new website for his butcher’s shop in Denby Dale. David runs a traditional high class butchery supplying only the best in local produce. He rears all his own beef just up the road in Clayton West and all the lamb and pork are sourced from a farm there too. The animals only travel a few miles to Heckmondwike to the slaughter house before David personally prepares all the choice cuts from the animals. Well worth a visit to Denby Dale if you want to get flavoursome meat rather than the bland supermarket variety and David is on hand to advise and suggest ideas for the perfect cut for the latest Nigella recipe that you’ve just seen on TV :¬)

Richard & Tina pre-wedding shoot

Tina and Richard are getting married at the end of the month at St Helen’s Church, Hemsworth and then on to Wentbridge House for the reception so tonight I met up with then to go through the wedding plans and have a bit of a pre-wedding shoot. The immaculate gardens at Abbey House museum near Kirkstall Abbey seemed like a good meeting point and so, as the sun faded behind some ominous clouds, we teamed up and had a short practice shoot before going through the wedding plans. These pre-wedding shoots are not only a great way of giving the couple an idea of how the photos will go on the day, but they’re a great way for us to get to know each other before the big day as very often, we’ve only ever met during the brief time when a couple comes to look at sample albums and that can be quite some time previously. Here are a few shots from the session and I’m looking forward to shooting again on 29th down at Wentbridge House hotel.

Fashion shoot in Manchester

Headed over to Manchester today for a shoot in a city centre bar with a couple of girls for a test shoot in readiness for a workshop later this month. During the workshop I’m going to be teaching how to light a subject using just small speedlights and also how work with and direct models to get the best out of your shoot. Because I’m running a speedlight workshop I only took speedlights with me and I have to say the bar is very much darker inside than I’d expected. This means the speedlights have to work much harder and I have to use extra speedlights to add fill and background lighting – the old AA Ni-Mh batteries took a drubbing I can tell you! Lots more on this event and the techniques after I’ve run the workshop. Rachael & Neil pre-wedding shoot

I met up with Rachael and Neil at their farm in Altofts for a pre-wedding meeting which we only just managed to squeeze in due to heavy schedules on both our parts! These guys get hitched next week at St Peter’s church, Kirkthorpe and then on to Bagden Hall for the reception. After going through the itinerary for the day, we went out into the garden for a pre-wedding shoot and got hit with some awesome light as the sun went down. I made the most of the evening light and the wonderfully manicured gardens (but then Neil is a landscape gardener!) and just used a speedlight as a kicker here and there to give me that bit of separation where I needed it. Rachael and Neil are both relaxed and a bundle of laughs so no worries about the photos on the big day. Going to enjoy shooting you guys! :¬)

Russ & Marie pre-wedding shoot at Sheffield Botanical Gardens

Today I caught up with Russ and Marie ahead of their Aston Hall wedding later this month to go through the wedding plans and also to have a bit of a pre-wedding shoot. It’s over 12months since these guys booked me and I’ve only ever met them once prior to today yet we got on like a house on fire so I’m guessing some good wedding pics will follow! I decided to meet them at Sheffield Botanical Gardens for the shoot and it turned out to be a good move. Lots of shooting options here but probably better on a less busy weekend – the warm spring sunshine had brought many of the Sheffield families out in force and the gardens were thronging. Can’t blame folks though, its a super place and with the weather like it is at the momnet you’d be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere far more tropical! Here’s a few shots from today and I’m looking forward to the wedding at Aston Hall which is a new venue to me.
