Wakefield wedding photographer at Weetwood Hall

Holy moly! How did we miss the rain today? After weeks of gale force wind and rain I wasn’t expecting much in the way of spontaneous outdoor photos at Libby & Jon’s wedding at St Matthew’s Church, Chapel Allerton and instead had resigned myself to shooting entirely indoors. As a professional Wakefield wedding photographer, working indoors is not a problem but just less of an opportunity for the more natural shots that can be had on a sunny summer afternoon while the guests are outdoors. However, the wetherforecast said that the sun would be out at 4pm and by Jove,  they were right! Libby and Jon were married at 2pm and by 3pm when the ceremony had finished the rain had stopped and the skies brightened but the wind was biting and so we did the forma group shots in the church. Just as we wrapped up these, including some huge groups shots of large sections of the 200 strong congregation, the sun came out and we managed to get outside for 20 minutes before departing to Weetwood Hall for the reception.

I’m glad we made the most of the weather at the church as by the time we got to Weetwood it had clouded up again and the plethora of cars in front of the hotel wood have made things difficult there. I’d scouted the venue the other week after the pre-wedding shoot and had decided to use the staircase at Weetwood but in the end, we only did guest shots in the bar here but I know we have some super images for the wedding album. Here is just a small selection to give everyone a flavour of the day which began at Avenue 2 Beauty in Allwoodly with the hair and make-up before heading back to Libby’s for the dress shots and then on to St Matthew’s.

To book me as your Wakefield wedding photographer, or even Leeds, Harrogate, Sheffield or York wedding photographer, just call the studio on 01924 229800 to chat or arrange a viewing of the sample albums or visit ShootMeBeautiful for all the wedding info. Libby & Jon are honeymooning in Morocco  and leaving early doors but I know the quests will appreciate this sneak peek as much  as I do.

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Palmer & Duncan Vets

Palmer & Duncan vets were in need of a Wakefield commercial photographer to help them with the images for their new website. Initially they contacted local fine art photographer Les Forrester, a friend of one of the nurses, but his daytime job prevented him from helping so he very kindly sent them my way.  After an initial meeting to discuss their requirements, I was on site today for the first part of the shoot looking to get some shots of the staff with their own pets as well as some initial shots around the practice. Despite a very busy morning at the practice, I managed to get round a few of the staff and into various rooms to capture a typical day in the life of Palmer & Duncan. Here are just a few of the images and I will be back on site with them next week for part two of the shoot.

If you’d like to see some stunning fine art images, have a look at Les’ site here

Wakefield Fashion Photographer: Lilahbelles

Looking for a Wakefield fashion photographer to create some fabulous marketing images? Fledgling clothing company Lilabelles were and they came over to the studio yesterday for a pilot run to see what we could achieve for their latest Facebook campaign. We shot around a dozen outfits and a few accessories using a white infinity curve lit to around 20% grey which I think is much more pleasing than a harsh white background. In post, it’s easy to colour shift the grey to other pastel colours too. The Lilahbelles website is on its way but in the meantime you can visit the Lilahbelles Facebook page.

boudoir photographer Wakefield: Anita

Boudoir photographer Wakefield: After photographing the curves of the cars this morning it I was back in the studio photographing curves of another kind! My second boudoir shoot of the week, this time with Anita who booked her ‘secretly gorgeous’ session last week. We shot a mix of high key and low key images in various sets with Anita changing outfits several times to give us a good selection of images to choose from. I’m posting a small selection here with Anita’s permission to give a taster of the kind of images we created.

To book me for your boudoir shoot, just call the studio on 01924 229800 for a chat. With £50 off any of the packages throughout the month of February, there’s never been a better time to book!

Commercial car photography: Wakefield Audi

I had my first attempt at commercial car photography today when I was asked by Wakefield Audi to help them with their photography of used vehicles in their purpose built photography studio. Their problems stem from the fact that the photography area at the rear of Wakefield Audi showroom on Denby Dale Road, was designed without consulting a photographer. Consequently there are some major design flaws that mean the photo area, which is open fronted,  suffers from bright sunshine and big reflections which corrupt the images. Additionally, not being professional photographers, they were also having issues with specular highlights (hot spots on the car’s paintwork caused by the flashes) which they were unsure of how to remove.

They have a nice little set-up there with the cars on a custom built turntable so that they can be rotated and shot from all angles and built into the frame work are a series of Bowens studio flash which just happen to be the same style of units that I use in the studio. I met up with Craig, their man in charge of photographing the cars, and went through some basics showing him how to exclude daylight from the images by using low ISO, high shutter speeds and small apertures so that the whole light would be from the flash units. By eliminating daylight as much as possible, means we have control over the light coming from the flashes – in a nutshell, we get consistent lighting! Next we made changes to the flash layout to create a large, soft pool of light that would spread evenly over the set rather than firing the flashes directly at the car which was the current state. Once we’d made a few changes, we had a go at shooting a couple of cars.

This is the first time I have done any studio style car photography and while the results might not be up to Audi’s marketing standards, they are pretty impressive when compared to the other car dealers in the district who tend to just shoot the cars in the parking lot!  I am due to go again to have a final tweak of the lights and also work out how to further reduce some of the reflections. Here’ s a couple of cars from today.

Wakefield portrait photographer: The Hoults

I last saw Victoria and Craig when I photographed their wedding about three or four years ago but the family has grown since then and with a new addition in the last 8 weeks! So, as a suprise Christmas gift, Victoria’s dad (who’s wedding to Sheila I did the year before Victoria’s!) bought her a gift voucher for a family shoot in the studio. Of course, we did all the family and every combo in between but it was little Ellie who was the star of the shoot and I couldn’t resist a few vintage style shots of her. She was strong enough to hold her head up and look directly at the camera and with a face like that, I couldn’t fail.

To book your family portrait shoot, just call the studio on 01924 229800 or send me a mail via the contact form above.
