glamour photographer Wakefield: Nikki

{glamour photographer Wakefield}: Today I gave another 1-2-1 photography tuition in my studio and i used Nikki as the model or the shoot. The aim of the shoot was to work through different lighting scenarios for glamour and boudoir photography using reflectors, hot lights and studio flash heads to create different moods to the images. Some shots were lit entirely with reflectors which is a technique I enjoy as I am partial to the warm ‘sunlight’ effects that can be achieved, I often employ this style of lighting in my wedding photography to for gorgeous bridal portraits. The trick with reflectors is knowing how to bounce the light and create either an overall even lighting or to highlight the face. I enjoyed the lifestyle images of Nikki reading a magazine and drinking coffee, these are the sort of images that can be created for stock agencies for instance. I also showed some boudoir techniques using classic Hollywood lighting to give gorgeous contrasty black and white images so typical of the 1940s film era.

To book me for your 1-2-1 or to book small group tuition, just call the studio on 01924 229800 for a chat.

commercial photographer Wakefield: Roan Solutions

commercial photographer Wakefield: Roan Solutions kindly invited me back to photograph three new starters for their website and also to photograph their new premises on Calder Business Park. Roan commissioned me previously their corporate headshots last year. The brief was pretty straightforward; three new starters requiring formal headshots and then some external shots of the new offices. For the headshots, I just rigged up a brace of speedlights against a white wall then moved a desk in front and put the key light in a softbox camera right. Then it was just a case of bringing in the clients and getting them to relax :¬)  Roan also required a few shots of Julian outside in his high vis jacket and hard hat as he spends most of his time on site rather than office bound. So, straight after the headshots, I whipped him outside for a few shots with the van using a snooted SB800 to light the shadows and get beneath the brim of his hat.

Yorkshire Alt Model photographer: Kimi Karma

[ezcol_1quarter]

Although I’m based in Wakefield as a Yorkshire alt model photographer, Kimi felt it was worth the trip over from Manchester for a portfolio update after having seen my work on various forums.

We shot some fashion images in the white corner before moving on to shoot on the spiral staircase and in the bathroom corridor before finally ending with a boudoir set in the bedroom. Kimi has a fabulous look and awesome green eyes which we made the most of in the images.

commercial photographer Wakefield: Gary Sunderland Hair Wizard

Commercial photographer Wakefield: Today I was in the studio shooting some commercial images for Gary Sunderland, a Wakefield based international hairdresser who is launching a new range of hair care products. When launched, the products will have  a wizard theme and so the brief was to shoot on a white background to allow the images to be composited with other vector graphics and to have a crystal ball put in the hands of the model. All the images here are ones that won’t be used for the product labels but I thought I post a few to give a taster of what we shot. The idea was for three hairstyles to represent shine, volume and style and we used 16yr old Kia as the model, who although she’d never modelled before, fitted the bill for what we wanted. The actual images will be full length shots but I created a few different crops so that Kia would have something for her model book (that’s the same girl in a wig at the end!). In the first image below, you can see the photo straight out of camera and then with some post processing applied and the crystal ball added. The mock-up of the final is along side. I have to stress this is just what I did in 10 minutes and it’s not the final shot as that will be done by the retouching house who are designing the actual labels. This is just my idea hastily composited using a stock shot of a crystal ball and a the universe as a backdrop!

Watch out for more images from this commission soon, but in the meantime, if you are looking for a Wakefield commercial photographer for your business, just give me a call on 01924 229800.

Fuji X Pro-1 boudoir shoot with Alice

Wakefield boudoir photographer

Alice first came to me for her model portfolio shoot about 18 months ago and has been back one other time since, so today was our third shoot and probably the best yet! Although Alice is tiny at just 5 feet 1 inch tall, she really does photograph well and has some great ideas for the shoots. Although we did several different sets today, I really liked the feel and style of this boudoir set using the Fuji X Pro-1. I’ve been using the X Pro-1 for a couple of months now but not for anything too serious, as it’s taken me a while to get used to shooting with this very much non-DSLR camera! To be fair, I have used it on a couple of pre-wedding shoots and quite a few of my recent shots for Palmer & Duncan vets were done with the little jewel but today, for the first time, I felt like I finally gelled with the camera.

I set the picture control to black & white R (red filter) so that I could see on the back of the camera the effect that the lighting would give me. Of course, I shoot RAW files so once on the computer they are displayed as colour and I simply create a JPEG from the RAW file after making any tweaks and adjustments and then convert the final image to mono in post, usually with CS6. The lighting was my usual mix of tungsten and flash to get some gorgeous soft sunlight effects which I adore at the moment. The beauty of this set up is that it is entirely created by me so I could get this same effect even if it is after dark! For the images I used the 35mm f/1,2, the 60mm macro with its fabulous ‘bokeh’ effect and I actually used the 55-200mm which I rarely use!  The result is a gorgeous set of beautiful feminine beauty shots that will look stunning in an album or as a set of prints. I’ve presented them here as black and whites, some with a soft sepia effect, which is how I envisaged the images and, just for comparison, the opening shot is a colour version shot on the Nikon D600.

To book me to shoot you some beautiful boudoir images, just call the studio on 01924 229800 for a chat and if you’re keen to have a go at this kind of photography yourself, just call the same number to book a training session.

Wakefield glamour photographer

Lyndsay was looking for a Wakefield glamour photographer to create some fabulous images that she could submit to editors for possible publication. In her last year of her studies to become a tax accountant, Lyndsay’s spare time hobbies are horse riding and acting as a promotions girl at boxing matches and car racing. However, she is wanting to move more towards modelling with a view to getting published and so she booked me to create her portfolio. Having only had a couple of amateur shoots previously, I began with the white corner as this is a great way of getting the model relaxed and is less daunting than going straight onto an infinity curve because the walls can be used as a prop. Following on from this we used various sets around the studio to create some really nice classy lingerie shots using a mix of studio flash and hot lights for that lovely sunlight effect. I had hoped to use the garden but the weather changed towards the end of the shoot and chilly wind got up so we unanimously voted to avoid the outdoor shots!

To book me for your glamour portfolio shoot or a fabulous boudoir shoot, just call me on 01924 229800 for a chat or fill in a contact sheet from the menu link above and I will get straight back to you.
