Yorkshire commercial photographer: Redrow at Martin House Hospice

I was over at Martin House Children’s Hospice today to photograph the Redrow apprentices helping decorate the place as part of national apprentice week. As well as the apprentices being on site, they were joined by other execs from Redrow, inclkuding chief exec James Poyner, to present a cheque to Martin House that Redrow staff had raised for the charity. The shoot was mostly just a press/PR session showing the Redrow staff along with Martin House staff and both mascots, so nothing too technical lighting wise. It was a bright sunny day so I used a couple of SB800s on full power in order to combat the bright sunshine an balamnce the exposures. As with all press shoots, it’s a case of coming up with about 15 different images that the designers and editors can choose from. Here are just a few from the day.

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: YAA night vision binoculars

As a Wakefield Commercial photographer, I work for many local clients on a regular basis and one of my most regulr are Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Today I was at the airbase near Nostell Priory to photograph a couple of the paramedics and pilots wearing their new night vision binoculars that have been donated by a local firm. Up to now, the air ambulance is not able to fly during darkness but with the acquistion of the night vision glasses, all that is about to change. Today, however, night vision glasses were the last thing we needed, a pair of Ray Ban’s would have been more appropriate! I did a few shots of the paramedics with the glasses fitted to the helmets as well as some PR shots for the sponsors who were on site for the hand over.

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Fillingham Trees

Although I am a Wakefield commercial photographer, my work takes me to many sites and today I was back at Fillingham Trees in Lincolnshire to photograph some more images for their web and brochure work. I did a big shoot at their Christmas tree farm last year but the time of year meant the trees were not as green and fresh looking as they should have been but they need they images for a large convention they were attending in Germany. The idea of this second shoot was to capture a few more images of the farmhands working the specialist machinery in the trees at a time when the trees were at their best colour. If I’m honest, they didn’t look much different, but then I’m not one of the UK’s leading Christmas tree growers! I used the Pentax for the shoot as the 15stops of dynamic range would allow me to pull detail out of the shadows because, all though it was winter sun, it was getting quite harsh by midday. Strong sun can result in contrasty images and normally I’d counter that with flash, but being on my own and working with moving machinery, it wasn’t possible to use the Profoto B1s that I had in the car,

Corsets and collars promo shoot

Zoe was back in the studio today to shoot some promo material for a forthcoming corsets and collars workshop I have in the pipieline. The idea is it will be a portfolio builder type day to capture some amazing images of Zoe in a variety of corsets and collars. I am also thinking of maybe combining it with some post processing tuition if delegates were interested in that as well. For more information and to see more of the kind of images that we will be shooting on the day, head over to the workshops pages and also feel free to contact me about reserving your place on the shoot.

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Redrow Homes staff shoot

I’ve worked many times as a Wakefield commercial photographer to Redrow Homes in recent months, usually on location at one of their building sites. Today was slightly different in that I was at the Wakefield Head Office to do some PR images of a 25yr service award presentation, followed by some staff headshots. Initially, I was only done to shoot some portraits of one of the directors, David Farraday, to accompany an editorial piece, but as all the heads o operation were on site for the presentation, Director Janes Poyner suggested I shoot headshots of everyone present for the Redrow website. James had a specific idea to shoot with a Redrow banner in the background which he wanted to be soft and out of focus but to still suggest Redrow. I achieved this very easily using a single SB800 speedlight in a 70cm octa (my go to location lighting kit) and dragged the shutter to bring in ambient. All of the shots, including those of David in his office were done this way. I used an 85mm lens for compression for all the headshots and my workhorse 70-200mm for the shots of David.

To book me to create some headshots for your business, webnsite or LinkedIn profile, just give me a call on 01924 229800.

Wakefield product photographer: Wilkes branding services

As a Wakefield product photographer I get to shoot a wide variety of goods and products for clients and today I was shooting for a regular client, Wilkes Group Services, who have branched out into providing corporate branding and personailisation of goods for businesses and people. This shoot was designed to show of some very high quality embroidery personalising and adding corporate branding to the staff aprons  for some local restaurants and pubs. I have to say, the quality of the garments and the embroidery was excellent and reminded me that I need to refresh and renew all my coporate branded shirts!
