Baby bump shoot with Natalie & John

Only about this time last year I was photographing Natalie and John’s wedding at Heald’s Hall but today they were in the studio for a baby bump shoot! It was good to see them both again and we had a good time shooting the various styles. I’ve just had a really busy couple of weeks and with two weddings later this week also, I’ve a monumental amount of editing to do, so here are just a couple of Natalie to be going on with. More will come over the next day or so hopefully!

Pontefract NEW College prospectus shoot: Day 2

Hit the college again today for the second half of the shoot to mop up on the departments we didn’t get round to on the first shoot. Once again we had a hard day having to nip in and out of classrooms and shoot students and teachers in as little time as possible while trying not to disturb the class too much – some were even sitting exams as we went in! Talk about pressure shooting! Anyway, came away with another 20gb of images to edit through so we must have done something despite the day going by in a blur :¬o

Abi in the studio

Abi was a bridesmaid at Scott and Amy’s wedding a while back and my friend Jannine whom I shot the wedding with over in Keighley asked if she could bring Abi over to the studio for a bit of a practise session with the studio lighting. So tonight they came over and we also had the company of Sarah Aveyard as MUA who did a great job on the make-up for the shoot. Here’s some footage from the night and a few of the images we did for Abi. If you’d like to book a portrait shoot, just give me a call on 01924 229800 or send me a mail.

Portrait Night with Maddy

After threatening to do it for ages, I’ve finally organised a group portrait night for photographers wanting to come to the studio to have a go at shooting with a model using the studio lights. The shoot will be on Wednesday 19th May and will have space for 5 photographers. Anyone shooting Nikon will have the chance to use some of my fast pro glass if they wish. To avoid disappointment book early by sending me a mail. The model for the night will be Maddy and I’ve done a small video from our recent shoot to give you all an idea of what you’ll be shooting!

STOP PRESS: All places are fully booked. If you want to be added to the list for the next shoot just drop me a mail.

High key shoot with Maddy

Maddy made a return visit to the studio today and, although it was a cold wind outside, the bright spring sunshine flooded into the studio making it perfect for some high key, summery fashion shots. The studio is a converted chapel, and has huge arched windows on three of the four sides and the sunlight just pours in making it very bright and airy. Although this can be a drawback to shooting low key work such as boudoir, it was ideal for what I had in mind for Maddy which was to shoot some high key images with a very shallow depth of field. Using just two lights to boost the colours and contrast we came up with a fabulous variety of images, though that’s not hard to do when you’re working with someone of Maddy’s calibre;  this is only the second shoot she’s had – her first being back in March when she came to the studio! As an aside, all these images are uploaded straight from camera and none have been retouched!

Photographers might like to know that Maddy is going to be the model for the first studio portrait workshop in two weeks time. The workshop will be on a Wednesday evening for around 2.5hrs and place are limited to 5 photographers so if you’re interested, get a mail off to me quickly!

Andy & Clare’s pre-wedding shoot

I met with Andy & Clare a few weeks back to go through the final planning of their wedding later this month at Tankersley Manor, and at that point we were due to do a pre-wedding shoot just to get them used to being photographed. However, on the day they came to the studio the rain hammered down and instead of nipping up to Bretton Park for the shoot, we did a short session in the studio. So, we rescheduled a shoot for another evening and that day came and again the heavens opened so we postponed to the beginning of this week and guess what! It rained again forcing us to shift dates again!  Last night, however, we went for the shoot regardless and made it to Bretton Park under heavy, threatening and leaden skies with even a bit of drizzle. I’m beginning to sense a pattern here and I think I can guess what the weather is going to be like on 29th May :¬)

The light levels were very low by 7:30pm so I opted to use the heavy skies to create some moody and dramatic shots by using a few speedlights to provide the lighting while at the same time dropping the sky down a stop or two. Here are a few shots done at dusk yesterday amid biting midges and light drizzle!
