Jonathan & Julie’s pre-wedding shoot at Bretton

What is it with me and pre-wedding shoots?! After a glorious spell of summer evenings, the clouds gathered, temperatures dropped and the wind got up for the pre-wedding shoot of Jonathan and Julie at Bretton Country Park. However, undeterred we went ahead with the shoot and both of them seemed at ease with the camera, meaning we got some great images of them. I’ve already done the edits and quickly processed up a few of my favourites for the blog and I’m looking forward to shooting their wedding at Waterton Park next month.

Don’t forget, all my wedding packages include a complimentary pre-wedding shoot. If you’d like to know more, just go to the wedding pages over on the main website or ring 01924 229800 for a chat.

Photographing ‘the girl next door’!

So, Sarah the make-up artist has arrived, the studio is set up, camera primed and we’re ready to shoot a portfolio but hang on! Where’s the client?  Just before the kick-off time, we get a call from her saying that her car has broken down! Aargh! So now what? Sarah’s come all the way from Halifax to do the make-up and I was all fired up for a shoot. Only one thing for it – the girl next door! Kat lives adjacent to the studio and Monday’s are her day off, so we go and fetch her and offer her a free make-over and portrait shoot. Looking slightly nervous but seemingly keen, Kat nipped off to get some gear and came back to the studio and Sarah got to work. We got some great images and I’m sure it was a completely different day to what Kat had planned! Here are a few images – just goes to show what can be achieved when you come for a shoot at VERVEstudio! Why not give us a call on 01924 229800 to book your make-over shoot? You don’t need to be anything more than the ‘girl next door’ :¬)

Sarah & Ian at Rogerthorpe Manor, Badsworth

Phew! Another absolute scorcher for the second wedding in two days – the heat is taking its toll on me and I barely have the strength left to type this entry! The hot weather, however, made for a great day for Sarah & Ian to get hitched at Rogerthorpe Manor, Badsworth and after the ceremony, their friends and family were able to spend the day relaxing with cold drinks in the Mediterranean weather. Hot days though mean harsh light with people squinting and dark shadowy eye sockets, so we used the lovely open shade of the trees for the group shots before jumping from one shady spot to the next to create some some stunning images of the bride and groom around the grounds. After the meal we headed off to nearby woods and fields for some late afternoon shots with a difference. Sarah was a sport dragging her wedding dress through the brambles to get to the woodland spot I had chosen – its amazing how much easier it was when I scouted the area wearing jeans! Got some images I’m really pleased with and I shot the whole wedding with just one lens– the awesome Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VRII

Sarah & Rory at The Black Swan, Helmsley

After eight years, Sarah & Rory finally tie the knot at The Black Swan Hotel, Helmsley on what had to be the hottest day of the year so far! Being a Welshman, Rory’s family had all made the long journey from Breckon for the wedding but what a day and a great venue too. The grounds of the hotel, although quite small, offered some great photo opportunities and I could have spent a whole day shooting inside in the various different rooms and snugs! I’m pleased with the images I got from my first shoot at this venue and, hopefully, it won’t be too long before I’m back here!

If you’d like to know more about my wedding packages, vist the wedding pages aon the website or call the studio on 01924 229800 to come and see first hand some of my work.

Group portrait night with Maddy

Tonight I hosted the first group portrait night at the studio using Maddy as the model. The evening was fully booked and I hope the delegates got both enjoyment and some good images from the evening. Maddy is such a natural in front of the camera and is very easy going so she makes the ideal model for those who are less experienced at shooting people as she requires little direction. It’s actually quite daunting to stand in front of someone on a one to one basis and take photographs and for me, the key to its success lies in communicating with your subject and building a rapport. Putting the model at ease is the key ingredient in getting the shots. As host, I didn’t take any shots but was simply on hand to advise, offer suggestions and tips and make coffee! I took three test shots just to ensure everything was well and here’s one of them. Proof, if proof were needed, that it is impossible not to get a great shot of Maddy!

To reserve your place on next month’s group shoot drop me a mail via the contact page or give me a call on 01924 229800

Faye Johnson Fashion Collection

This evening I was in the studio to shoot Faye Johnson’s fashion collection. The set of three dresses were her unique designs that she was submitting for the final part of her fashion degree and Faye needed some high quality fashionista images to go in her portfolio. The studio seemed full of people all bustling around as we shot the images using two models, Bryony & Emma, and there was just a great sense of fun and pride as the girls strutted their stuff for me as I clicked away.  Here’s a video clip of the shoot along with a few stills.
