Rebecca-Alana in the studio

16yr old Rebecca came up from Sheffield today for a studio-based fashion shoot to get her portfolio under way. Lots of clothes, lots of changes and a three different backdrops gave us loads of images to go at by the end of the session, but what also made the difference that, despite her age, Becca was a real natural in front of the camera and needed little direction from me in terms of posing. It was her first shoot as well! It makes such a difference when the model knows how to move and certainly gives a lot more variety to the shots.

As ever, to book me for your portfolio shoot, call 01924 229800 to discuss. On location, in the studio or a bit of both but guaranteed some great images to kick start your modelling career.

Wakefield based professional fashion and beauty photographer shooting model portfolios for beginners and experienced models either in the studio or on location and covering Wakefield, Leeds, Harrogate and York and the whole of West Yorkshire

Wildlife in Bulgaria

Just got back from a week in Bulgaria with a friend where we’ve been shooting wildlife images, mostly birds but with few landscapes and mammals thrown in too. The weather was generally very good with rain only in the mountains on the first day, though we had very heavy rain the day we planned to do vultures which meant we were in the hide at 5am and no sign of vultures till the rain cleared at 2pm (vultures won’t fly in the rain)! Even then, the vultures were held off the carcass as the local shepherds’ dogs came one by one to feed on the carcass – they are very big mean looking wolf hounds so we, like the vultures, deferred to them! Eventually we did get the vulture shots and I was pleased with them and I really enjoyed the bee-eaters too. Only a few images here, the rest will be over on the wildlife website – Wildscenes – but it will be a while before I edit as I have a cack load of editing of weddings, commercial and portraits to get through as you can see from recent blog activity!

Chelsea’s portfolio shoot

17 year old Chelsea hit the studio today for a portfolio shoot to help her on her way to becoming a model/TV extra. We did the whole shoot in the studio but we will be shooting some additional location work shortly after I get back from a photo trip to Bulgaria (I’m heading there tomorrow!). We shot a variety of outfits from fashion to swimsuit; headshots and full length shots to get variety of poses and styles into the session and using high key and low key lighting we achieved a good selection in the end. Here are a few images, loads more to go at but for now I need to charge the batteries, empty the flash cards and get the big guns out (500mm f/4 et al)  ahead of the big wildlife photo shoot in Bulgaria over the next 8 days!

To book me for your portfolio shoot, just call 01924 229800 to have a chat or book a session.

Martin & Kimberley at Woodlands Hotel

Following on from their pre-wedding shoot just a couple of weeks ago, I met up with Martin and Kimberley but this time for the big day itself. The couple were married at Holy Trinity Church in Ossett before heading on to Woodlands Hotel near Gildersome for the reception. The weather was blistering with very bright sunshine and despite a stiff breeze at times, there was no respite from the heat! We shot some of the formals at the church and then headed to Woodlands for a Pimms and lemonade before continuimg with the bridal party in the grounds of the hotel. The evening light was just to die for and we managed to get back out straight after the speeches just for an extra 10 mins or so before the sun dipped behind the high trees surrounding the hotel. Here are a few shots from the day. Loads to go through but there’s lots to get on the blog before I head off to eastern Europe on a photo shoot.

PR shots for Trinity Walk shopping mall

London ad agency Halogen commissioned me to shoot Trinity Walk, Wakefield’s brand new shopping mall built on the site of the old market. To say I’m not a shopper is an understatement so this was my first (and probably only) venture into the shopping mall, but I have to say it’s impressive with the open air, continental feel under the great glass canopy. My brief was to shoot every shop head on along with some general architecture shots to capture the feel and vibrancy of the new place and finally, PR shots for three specific shops – Pizza Express, River Island and Pulp. I picked a great day for the shoot with blue skies and white clouds which really emphasised the open air feel, but gave me problems in terms of reflections in the glass. I used a Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 PC-E lens for most of the formal shots to avoid any unsightly converging verticals but then let rip with the 14-24mm f/2.8 (wonderfully sharp lens!) and my favourite, the 70-200mm f/2.8 for the compression shots.

A location shoot for Emma

After seeing the results of the boudoir shoot I did for Natasha, Emma decided she’d like a shoot too and drove up from Oxford for the weekend to stay at Natasha’s where I caught up with her for the session. We shot a variety of styles from fashion to boudoir around the house but heavy bank holiday rain stopped us from doing any outdoor shots. I have to say though, I love Natasha’s dining room table and chairs and can’t resist using it – awesome prop! Here’s a few shots from the session.

To book me for your boudoir or fashion shoot, either on location or in the studio, just call me on 01924 229800 to discuss your requirements or arrange to drop by for a chat and see some work.
