Kim at the studio

17yr old Kim was in the studio tonight for a portrait shoot to kick start her model book. We only had a short time slot, so I shot all low key lighting as I thought it went well with her look. She has the most incredible jawline and is very photogenic and I love her modern look. I’ve already had an enquiry from a new client I’m about to shoot with later this month to see if Kim would be available for the shoot! At 5’8″ and with striking features, she is going to be in demand for sure!

H.Samuel’s & Peter Jones at Trinity Walk

The first commercial shoot of the year and I was back working for London agency Halogen to shoot the first day of trading for H.Samuel’s and Peter Jones in Wakefield’s Trinity Walk. The mall was crowded with shoppers which is great for PR shots of a shopping mall and even the weather was kind with some striking winter light on Peter Jones as I arrived mid-afternoon. However, by the time I got round to Samuel’s and the big screen advertising, the weather had definitely changed as a strong wind got up and temperatures plummeted under threatening skies. Still, I persevered and came away with some images that will please the clients :¬)

Carrieanne boudoir shoot on location

Carrieanne booked me for her professional glamour and boudoir portfolio and today we did the shoot in the opulent surroundings of one of York’s finest boutique hotels. The location lent itself to the style of the shoot and using a few speedlights and by making the most of the sumptuous surroundings, we got some fabulous images. I really enjoy location shooting; using creative lighting to set the mood and atmosphere of the image is what I most enjoy and I love using the furniture and other props in the images to give us those magazine quality shots. Of course, all this rubs off on my wedding shots too and I use a lot of these lighting techniques during the wedding shoots, especially during the bridal preps. I’m always scouting for new locations to shoot in too, and we have our eye on the ultimate York venue for a “Celebrate the dress” shoot very soon!

If you’d like a fabulous portfolio, glamour or boudoir shoot like Carrieanne’s, just give me a call or drop me a line. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I can guarantee you a unique gift for your partner that you will both treasure for years. The lines are open – 01924 229800.

Trinity Walk Christmas Lights finals

The Christmas lights commission ends as it began with a shoot at Trinity Walk to mop up a few of the lights that weren’t available when I did the shoot for another client back in early November. Today though, I was back on site for MK Illuminations who were responsible for creating and installing these impressive lights and I just needed to get shots of the Christmas tree in Grammar Square and the reindeer under the gull wing. Todays shoot was awkward as the tripod foot on my 70-200mm lens has gone all loose and wobbly – really not what I want when shooting long exposures at dusk! Looks like my fee from this commission will go on a hefty repair bill from Nikon who certainly know how to extract money from a client :¬(

Kim and Steve at Mid-Yorkshire Golf Club, Darrington

The last wedding of the year for me and it was forecast to finish on a wet one but the cold wet weather didn’t spoil the show for me despite it being the only wedding this year that I’ve had to shoot entirely indoors! Kim’s dad is very ill which meant the wedding plans all had to be brought forward so that Bob could attend but, unfortunately, due to his failing health he wasn’t able to be there on the day but I’m sure he will get a flavour of the day from the slideshow here. Re-arranging the wedding at short notice meant everything had to be hastily sorted with military precision but everything went off without a single hitch and the day was a roaring success. Kim prepared for the big day at Wentbridge House Hotel before travelling the short distance to the Mid-Yorkshire Golf Club for the ceremony and wedding breakfast.Because Kim’s dad couldn’t make it, she was given away by her son Christian who did a sterling job and made a great speech. The golf club was a new venue for me to shoot at and the heavy rain meant I had to do everything indoors with the exception of the shots of Steve and the boys who braved the rain along with me. Shooting indoors doesn’t really phase me, as a full time professional, I shoot lots of commissions indoors and so coming up with some creative lighting from a couple of speedlights and some gels is right up my street. I love the warmth of the images of Kim and her daughters getting ready and we shot some elegant bridal stuff inside the golf club, finishing up after the meal with a bit of a fashion style portrait shoot of Kim, Hollie and Alicia. Here are a selection of images from the day and I’ve loads more to go at!  First, a slideshow for the folks free from the limitations of Apple plus a few stills for those who aren’t. Christmas Lights ~ Deansgate, Manchester

I was in Manchester’s Deansgate today for the final big Christmas lights shoot for MK Illuminations leaving just a mopping up operation scheduled for Trinity Walk, Wakefield over the next day or so. People often say leave the best till last and, although it was unintentional, I really think that was the case; the lights on Deansgate looked spectacular. The drama of the lights was heightened by the blue-black storm sky, howling winds and torrential rain as I arrived and the wet roads were creating some spectacular reflections, Fortunately, the weather eased off about 20mins into the shoot and I was able to get the shots without having huge out of focus water droplets on the lens which is the single biggest problem when shooting in adverse conditions. The colours seemed to be really intensified by the conditions and I was pleased with some of the shots given the fact I was playing cat and mouse with traffic along one of Manchester’s busiest roads and without a single traffic island. The saving grace was the fact there were loads of bargain hunters out and about leading to the pelican crossings getting some hammer which worked in my favour by stopping the traffic and allowing me to dash into the road for a few quick shots before it all began moving again.  Wakefield commercial photographerWakefield commercial photographerWakefield commercial photographerWakefield commercial photographerWakefield commercial photographer
