One of my favourite genres is workings as a Wakefield headshots photographer, creating high quality headshots for actors and musicians either in the studio or on location. Today I was tasked with creating some headshots for drama student Charlotte who is heading off to uni to study drama and acting. Charlotte was originally booked in to have a photo shoot in her prom dress along with brother Will in his suit. However, having decided the make-up needed to be totally different for the headshots to the prom shoot, we decided to break the shoot into two sessions to avoid any long delays in changing hair and make-up. I used a Phottix hexa-para 160cm softbox as the key light and set it very close to Charlotte for maximum softness and shot using the Pentax 645z and 150mm portrait lens. I love this combo for colour depth and sharpness throughout the image along with the beautiful tones and dynamic range that the large sensor delivers. I used a white backdrop initially, which I then dropped to 20% grey by adjusting the lighting, and finally we switched to a black background.
