Crofton Acadamy School prom Kings Croft Hotel

The 2012 Crofton Academy school prom was held at Kings Croft and I was kindly invited along to shoot some official photos of the kids in their finery. We followed much the same battle strategy as Royds school last week except we were a team member down as my daughter, who manned the PC last week, was actually attending the prom. So for once, I wasn’t behind the camera but instead did the editing, printing and mounting of the photos while Heather did the photography as she is less experienced in the workflow of the shoots. As ever, we were swamped by kids wanting to be photographed and it is such a mad crush in the conservatory at Kings Croft, its like working in the middle of a football crowd! However, the kids were good natured and we battled through and managed to get a print to everyone with the exception of a few folks at the end as we were cleaned out of mounts and paper!

If you were unable to get a photo on the night or want another copy for a grandparent, you can get to all the photos by clicking this link CA_PROM2012. Prints are £5.00 for an 8×6 in a black stut mount or £8.00 for a 10×8 in a black strut mount. Simply ring me with your order on 01924 229800 and collect the print at Crofton Academy.

Lee and Becki at Waterton Park Hotel

Back on home turf today for Lee & Becki’s wedding at Waterton Park Hotel Wakefield but with threatening skies and a poor forecast, we were always going to be shower dodging! Becki and her bridesmaids got ready for the wedding in the gamekeeper’s cottage which was a new twist for me with most brides getting ready in the hall itself. The cottage, however, was a really great secluded place and had it not been hammering it down just at the wrong moment, we would have been able to shoot some super bridal portraits in the garden without fear of being seen by the groom or other guests. As it happens, I went out in the torrential rain but it was worth it to get some rainy window shots :¬) The heavy rain meant that the walk up to the hotel for the ceremony was a tricky and wet one, dodging puddles and torrents of water running down the main drive but we made it ok and headed into a stifling ceremony room only a few minutes late. Light rain forced the wedding party straight into the hall for drinks but we soon managed to get out again as the rain eased off and we even had sun briefly for some of the group shots. Eventually we were rained off again but did managed to get out in the early evening to shoot against some intense storm skies which are always a bonus. Here are a few shots from the day.

Royds School Prom

The Holiday Inn at Garforth was the venue for tonight as I was kindly invited to be the photographer at Royds School Prom. The prom goers were great fun and all looked the part in their fabulous outfits and were keen to be photographed so me and my team were non-stop all night. A big thankyou to all those who bought photos – here is a sample of what we shot on the night and I will try and get a gallery online very soon so that parents and grandparents can see the full range of pics. I think you’ll agree, some of these guys wouldn’t look out of place on the Hollywood red carpet :¬)

Excite clothing: vintage shoot

Been a few weeks since Excite Clothing were in the studio but they were back today for a plus size shoot with Jenna. We shot a load of stuff in the studio in the usual style for the web site but just before we packed up, we had a quick shoot outside the studio to get a few impact shots. We shot on the front door step and the garden just to the side of the building and did three dresses that I felt had a vintage look and feel to them so that’s how I presented them here. Lighting was a simple combo of daylight and fill from a beauty dish on a 500w monobloc powered by a travel pack. There was just a bit too much bright light to allow me to go to some really wide appertures so I ended up mostly around the f/4 mark but f/2.0 would have been so sweet.

Pre-wedding: Anna & Danny at Ettington Park Hotel

I travelled down to Stratford-Upon-Avon today to catch up with Anna and Danny for a pre-wedding meeting at their wedding venue – Ettington Park Hotel. All I can say is wow! What a spectacular place for a wedding! Anna and Danny are from London but found this place when they booked a weekend break at Ettington Park and, after looking at venues in their neck of the woods, they decided that they really wanted Ettington. So how do I fit in? Well, Anna was a guest at Nick and Rachel’s wedding at Oulton Hall last year and although Rachel is from up here, she now works in London with Anna. Unfotunately, Anna’s sister had a bad experience with her wedding photographer and sadly never got an album so, having seen Rachel’s fabulous A3 storybook album, Anna decided just to book me for the job which is very kind of her. Although they aren’t getting married till late August, today was the only day we could all meet due to other commitments on the weekends leading up to their big day. The weather held off for us although it was really windy but we still managed a shoot in the spectacular grounds. There are so many spots to shoot in but I decided to hold off a lot of them until the big day. As you know, I don’t normally shoot pre-weddings at the venue just so we get different images, but with us living a couple of hundred miles apart, it made sense to scout the venue at the same time as the meet-up. Anna said she didn’t like having her picture taken but I have to say I liked taking her picture :¬) Here are a few shots from the day, I may do a slide show as I haven’t done one in ages. I just need the right soundtrack, I’m thinking Neneh Cherry’s ‘Buffalo stance’ eh Danny? ;¬)
