Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Redrow PR shoot

Back after the Christmas break and my first job as a Wakefield commercial photograoher was to create osme press and PR images for Redrow Homes. The brief involved photographing the team at The Granary, York who have picked up an award for the best residential development, along with photographing the assistant site manager who has collected the Redrow award for best customer services. Just ahead of this shoot, I called in at the Newton Kyme development near Boston Spa to photograph the sales team to go with an article about the last five remaining houses for sale there. All standard stuff fo me, creating team and individual images on location, and I used my usual set-up of a speedlight into a small octabox to give a nice fill to the images.

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter

Working as a Wakefield commercial photographer I have built up a number of regular clients and Yorkshire Air Ambulance, based at Nostell Priory, are one such client. Today, I was asked to shoot some images of a pilot and a paramedic that could be used as a life sized cut-out at publc events where event goers can stand behind the cut-out and take photos of themselves as part of the crew. To make life easy for myself and the graphic designers, I used a plain wall inside the hangar as a backdrop and lit it with a speedlight to make it go white. A couple of other well placed speedlights made the silver-grey floor go white while the final speedlight, a Profoto A1, into a small octa provided the key light. I was also asked to do some detail shots of the newly acquired night vision binoculars which could be used for press and PR releases. The final part of the brief was to capture some abstract images of the helicopter which could be used as large canvas artwork around the air base. There are already a few pieces hanging in the corridors at the base but it was thought that a few more were required. Despite the dull day, I managed to shoot some reasonable images and drop in a blue sky in post 🙂

Wakefield commercial photographer: Christmas lights Serpentine Green

Today my job as a commercial photographer took me down to Peterborough to visit Serpentine Green shopping centre to capture the Christmas lights installed by Fizzco, a client I regularly work for at this time of year. Each year, Fizzco commission me to visit one of their new installations to record the Christmas lights to use in their following year’s campaign to bring on board new clients. The Serpentine Green was a new venue for 2017 and so I was on site about 45minutes before sunset to make sure I was there for the blue hour. The blue hour is a small window around 20minutes after sunset in which the sky appears a royal blue colour in the images. This is essential when shooting lights and night scenes – once the sky has gone totally dark, it becomes very difficult to record the scene as the subject can get lost in the shadows. By shooting during the blue hour, it’s possible to capture the Christmas lights and still have plenty of detail in the image allowing the viewer to see the building as well as the lights.

Wakefield commercial photographer: Interior photography for Flexspace

Another interior photography shoot, this time for Flexspace, a Leeds based property rental firm that lets out office space to small businesses. One of their large units in Armley has become vacant and I was tasked with photographing the interior to create some images to be used in advertising the space. In truth, this was just a large empty office inside a mill with very little in the way of furniture but the brief was to create a feeling of both space and also indicate that many desks could be accommodated. There were half a dozen desks in the main room and I had to keep moving them around and shooting with a 70-200mm to compress the scene when I needed to make the images appear as if there were lots of desks in the office and using a wide angle lens, I could also create the sense of space. I also utilised a few plastic potted shrubs borrowed from another office to give that feeling of a comfortable working environment. The brief included shooting the conference room, breakout space and corridor along with the small kitchen and restroom. Using a series of speedlights to add light to the scene, I also placed gelled speedlights in alcoves an behind pillars to give a hint of blue light here and there just for added depth and to water down the fluorescent lights. Wakefield commercial photographer: Interior photography & staff headshots for Rejuvenate

Today’s shoot combined interior photography and staff headshots for a new client based in Wakefield. Rejuvenate are a Harley Street based company that have just opend an office in Wakefield specialising in high-end beauty and cosmetic surgery. I was commissioned to photograph the interior of the practice along with headshots of the practice manager and some of the beauty therapists in action. I set about the interior photography initially to allow time for the beauticians to arrive. Using the medium format Pentax 645z, I was able to capture the interior without the need for flash as the dynamic range is just so great on this camera. In a couple of the consulting rooms, I had to switch to the Nikon D810 as I didn’t have a wide enough lens for some of the shots but this was fine for the commission. Once the beauty therapist arrived along with a volunteer patient, I set about creating some commercial shots of the activities that take place on site, such as eyebrow tattooing and lip enhancement. With these images under the belt, I then created some formal headshots of the staff using a white wall to create headshots for the website, but also some more cimematic headshots for use in press and PR. Below are just a small sample of the images I created on the day. To book me for your interior photography or staff headshots, just call the studio on 01924 229800

Wakefield Portrait Photographer: A family shoot in the studio

Much of my work as a Wakefield portrait photographer involves shooting on location byt today it was a studio based family shoot with the Purfleets. Things were always going to be tricky with a 3month old twins and a boisterous three year old but that’s all part of the fun. I got plenty of shots of JJ who seemed to enjoy being a model but the twins were another matter altogether and weren’t happy about anything! I guess I wouldn’t be happy being woken from a deep car sleep either but we persevered and got some shots by the end of the session. However, I always have an idea in my head of wehat images I want to create but today it wasn’t to be. One nil to the twins then ;¬) Maybe the rematch will go in my favour but we did still manage some great images of which I’ve posted a few here.
