Vintage Shoot on Heath Common

I met up with Leone & Vanessa in Heath village today to do a quick vintage shoot before I nip off on holiday for two weeks (huzzah!). We had a full team on the shoot, including stylist, MUA and lighting assistant plus some great props including a 1963 Ford Major tractor! We had done around an hour’s shoot when the sky blackened and we fell victim to the most outrageous thunder storm and cloud burst which, quite literally, soaked me to the skin! Anyhow, we managed some great images and I am sure we will be doing this again very soon, maybe even as a workshop. Mail me if you’re interested :¬)

Cannon Hall wedding photographer: Lucy & peter

Cannon Hall wedding photographer: Lucy & Peter chose to get married at Cannon Hall near Barnsley followed by a reception at Cawthorne Village Hall. There was an ever present threat of rain, heavy rain, that had been forecast but it didn’t arrive until the early evening when the heavens opened! For most of the day it was hot and sultry and everyone was in a lather but the day went well and was enjoyed by everyone. I loved the vintage style of the bridesmaids and Lucy’s funky footwear and the vintage theme continued with the girls arriving in a super old ‘Dub’ and the boys on a vintage bus. After the ceremony, we headed to the walled garden for some formals before nipping out into the main grounds to use the old columns for the bridal party shots. Down in Cawthorne, the hall had been beautifully decorated by Lucy and co and the wedding breakfast went down a treat. The hall was stacked to the gunnels by the time first dance came along and it was absolutely swealtering in there! Here’s a selection from the day. Lots more of my wedding work over on Shootmebeautiful

Kings Croft wedding photographer: Ian & Linda

Today’s wedding shoot was at Kings Croft Hotel with Linda and Martin and the weather was perfect; nice and sunny but not too hot or humid as it has been over the past few weeks. Linda and the girls got ready at the venue and that’s where we caught up with them for a few prep shots before nipping out to meet Martin, his dad and the best man for the groom shoot. Following the ceremony, we headed out into the grounds – which I have to say are looking good – for the formals and the fun shots but in the usual Kings Croft style we were hurried to say the least as the next wedding was about to spill out into our shoot! Still, we did ok in the short time we had and caught up with a few more shots in the absolutely glorious evening light as Linda and Martin’s guests and families enjoyed the evening summer sunshine. Here are a few from the day.

Wakefield commercial photographer: Trinity Walk

Today I was back in Trinity Walk capturing some summer shopping images for the TW website. Also on the brief was to photograph the unit above ASDA living which is going to be marketed as office space. I was originally commissioned to go yesterday during the hot weather to capture people eating al fresco in the summer sun outside Pizza Express and The Handmade Burger Co., but as neither restaurant had sun brollies and with temperatures around 30dg, everyone was eating indoors in the air conditioned restaurants! I had to go back today where lower temperatures and cloud meant far more folks were eating outside but then again, the downside is I don’t have the bright summer sunshine feel to the shots. I also managed to press gang a few volunteers into posing as happy shoppers for me after I nipped into a few of the shops, got some carrier bags and filled them with bubble wrap to make them look like full bags of shopping. My cunning plan worked a treat and my volunteers look to be weighed down with shopping :¬)

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: BOP headshots

London based creative consultancy BOP are up in Wakefield for their summer conference which they are holding at The Hepworth Gallery, the site of my old studio before it was knocked down to make way for the new gallery :¬\ While they were all together for the conference, they decided it was time to update their profile photos on the BOP website and so they contacted me to see what I could do for them. Rather than shoot a typical studio headshot, I thought it would be good to meet them at their hotel and shoot just across the road in the Merchantgate quarter of Wakefield. My idea was to make the most of the glorious early evening light for a bit of backlighting or to use it to add golden skin tones to the subjects. I wanted to shoot some casual portraits as much as anything with the look and feel of friendly and approachable and here’s what we came up with.

Summer fashion Shoot

Last week’s attempt at a summery fashion shoot among the poppies was thwarted when we met on the only dull night of the week. Tonight, however, we got the light but the poppies are over! Fortunately I had an idea where there might still be some mayweed that faced west so that we would be able to shoot into the setting sun to get some nice backlighting and flare. Same team on the shoot again but this time we filled Charlotte’s gorgeous auburn hair with flowers. Then we threw her deep into the mayweed, cast off the lens hood to allow a little flare and reduce contrast and then hit her with some fill light from a Bowens 500 monobloc loaded with a sunsoft deep dish. We had to work fast as the light drops quickly and also we had to make sure the pesky hedgerow in the background wasn’t distraction and cutting through her head. All things considered, we did ok and I got some shots I’m pleased with. As the light dropped we switched outfits and changed location to shoot against some gathering clouds and the sunset although, the latter lost against the former :¬\ Still, there was some colour and again we came away with a few images. Here’s a few for now.
