Wakefield Commercial Photographer: NEW College

Wakefield commercial photographer: Today I was once again at NEW College in Pontefract to shoot some new images for their autumn 2014 prospectus. This is the fourth year they have kindly commissioned me for a shoot and it was just as tough this year as any other! It’s really hard work dashing from class to class, humping a very heavy camera bag and a few lighting stands, especially in the heat we had today! The college is undergoing major refurbishment and a rework of the courses on offer so, lots of new stuff to shoot along with some of the familiar subjects I have shot in past years. I will be back there again on Monday for the second half of the shoot but in the meantime, here are a few from today.

Love the Prom Dress: Beth

Prom season is upon us and if you’re looking to do a love the prom dress shoot, then look no further and give me a call. Tonight was all about the prom dress and I drafted in my new muse Bethany for a promo shoot around the Hepworth Gallery. Keen eyed blog followers will know I photographed Bethany on her 14th birthday last year and you will also see she is featured as my blog logo. Bear in mind Bethany is not yet 15 and you will easily see why I think she’s the hottest new thing and I’m confident she will be able to make modelling a career if she desires. Before that though, I am going to shoot the heck out of her for my portfolio :¬)

This shoot was the first time I’ve used my 200 f/2 in anger and I am so pleased with it’s performance. All the images here are taken using with either 200 f/2, 135 f/2 or 50 f/1.4  and none were shot beyond f/2! Lighting came from a 500watt Bowens kitted out with a beauty dish for some soft fill.

If you are looking to do a love the prom dress shoot or indeed, you want to don your wedding dress again for a Love the dress shoot like this, just give me a call on 01924 229800 for a chat or to book a shoot.

Yorkshire Glamour Photographer: Nikki

When Channel4 were looking for a Yorkshire glamour photographer a couple of years ago, they came across me and booked me for a shoot for one of their programmes which was based around a girl wanting to be a glamour model and her father not being happy about it. Nikki has decided now to have a go at being a full time glamour model and booked in with me again to shoot some portfolio and promo work. I should have known better than shooting on Friday 13th as all sorts of things happened to hamper the shoot and in the end, we only had around 90minutes shooting but I think we got some good images. Nikki is based close so I think we will shoot again shortly but here are a few from the current session.

I’ve been playing a good deal with 800w hot lights recently and I use those redheads for a lot of my Hollywood lighting, but I have been fancying the idea of shooting with cool lights such as the Hedler HMIs or LED panels. While I was in the The Flash Centre in Leeds, I was chatting to manager Russ who kindly offered to lend me a pair of LED panels to try. I used them on the indoor lingerie shoot here but I struggled with the white balance immensely! The lingerie images are lit with a couple of Socanland panels and backlit by an 800w tungsten. You might argue I was asking for trouble by mixing the light sources but the Socanlands are supposed to be daylight balanced so it should have worked ok. However, the LEDs have a strong green cast in my view and I ended up continually tweaking the white balance until I got it something like an acceptable result. I still feel there is a magenta cast in these images but they are just about acceptable. Thanks to Russell at The Flash Centre for the loan of the LEDs, I can recommend you go there if you want good friendly advice on all things flash. Tell Russ I sent you :¬)

Hairdressing photographer: Gloss hair

Today I was again being a hairdressing photographer for Gloss Hair in Knaresborough for another one of their competition entries.  This time it is was for salon owner Charlotte who is entering a competition run by Great Lengths Hair Extensions, a manufacturer and supplier of high quality natural hair extensions. Charlotte spent 6 hours colouring Becky’s hair a few days ago and today, spent another 6 hours weaving in the extensions. All this dedication culminates in Charlotte entering a single shot into the Great Lengths 2014 competition!  For those of you following my blog, you will recall that Gloss staff entered a hair colour competition a few weeks ago but as yet, the results from that have not been announced. Fingers crossed for Charlotte’s entry this month and let’ s hope we get Becky Jade onto a magazine cover as we did with our last efforts :¬)

Wakefield wedding photographer: Jeff & Claire

Much better day weather wise than yesterday for the meet up with Jeff and Claire ahead of their Dales wedding later this month. Claire is my niece and so this will be very much a family affair but fortunately I still get to stay behind the camera rather than in front of it :¬) Jeff and Claire will be married at Skipton Registry Office and then they heading on to Cracoe village hall for the reception. We met up with them today to scout the venues and then headed over to Burnsall for a pre-wedding shoot. The wedding will be vintage themed as far as I can gather hence my giving the images a bit of a vintage feel.

Waterton Park wedding photographer: Stacey & Neale

Stacey and Neale booked me as their Waterton Park wedding photographer for their big day in July and today we met up for a pre-wedding shoot and a run down of the day’s schedule. I honestly cannot believe we got away with the shoot after having driven through a cloudburst and floods in Wakefield, only to get to Huddersfield to find a break in the rain. After meeting at the Tolson Museum which is not too far from their home, we had about half an hour with the camera before heading to a cafe at nearby Lepton to go through the details. Interestingly, we were photobombed by Molly the Labrador at one point who climbed up a few steps to sit in the back of the photos! Here is a little montage from the shoot and I think the fact that they were both relaxed about the shoot suggest we should do OK on the day, so long as we don’t get the rain we in Wakefield this morning!
