Today the studio was awash with lace and satin for a wedding dress photography shoot that has been in the planning for a couple of months now. Today, however, everything came together and we had hair and make-up, stylists, two models and 21 wedding dresses in the studio for the shindig. The brief was to shoot web content for Wedding Dress World, a new website selling affordable dresses online and the aim was to show the detail of the dresses. The main model, Anna, had been chosen for her English rose looks and her height and stature were perfect for all the dresses – she made each one look stunning. A second model, Nicole, was chosen for her olive skin and sultry looks and she was to model just three dresses but the images were more for impact rather than detail. It was a long day for all concerned but by the time darkness fell we just about had it covered. Here is a selection from the shoot and the website will be live soon. Hopefully this shoot is being followed up by a session for some bespoke designer dresses for a separate web venture.  As an aside, Anna is a singer and is currently recording a selection of her own songs so, of course, we discussed the possibility of shooting some promo images soon too :¬) Watch this space.

headshots photographer West Yorkshire | Wakefield headshots photographer

Rebecca discovered me while looking for a Wakefield headshots photographer as she was in need of some high quality portraits for her Linkedin profile. I shoot quite a few headshots sessions for actors, musicians and business people and I do enjoy them. They are always a challenge as most folks are pretty nervous at the thoughts of being photographed, it has been said that being photographed is as nerve wracking as public speaking for most folks! During a portfolio session, the client usually starts out nervous but as the shoot goes on they get more relaxed and the best shots come late in the session. However, during a headshots session, we don’t have the luxury of as much time for the nerves to settle, so it’s my job as a photographer to., not only get technically perfect, high quality images, but to get the sitter to relax as quickly as possible. This is why I stress to delegates on my workshops, being a photographer is more about being a people person than a tech-head! When I do a headshots session, I usually shoot on a white and a black background to enable me to get different lighting styles and looks. Here are a couple of shots of Rebecca, look out for them on Linkedin :¬)

If you are an actor, musician, performer or business person looking for some high quality headshots, just give me a call on 01924 229800 for a chat. The session lasts around 45mins and is suprisingly affordable.

Inked Girl Photographer Wakefield | Wakefield Alt Model Photographer

Emily was looking for an inked girl photographer when she discovered me via an internet search and, after a couple of emails sorting out dates, she was in the studio for a the shoot. Emily has had one shoot previously with a Manchester based photographer but decided she wanted to get a portfolio update after seeing my images of other tattooed girls on my website. Emily’s brief was to shoot to specifically show off the tattoos so this meant a lingerie shoot which we did using a few different sets in the studio. After some white corner stuff, we moved onto the bathroom, bathroom corridor, dining room and finally ended up using the bedroom and one of my exquisite vintage furs :¬) Already, there’s a couple of online magazines that are really interested in using these images, so it was well worth Emily dropping by.

If you are a tattooed model, alt model or vintage girl looking for a stylish portfolio update, just give me a call on 01924 229800 to arrange a shoot.

Waterton Park hotel wedding photographer | Andy & Shelli | Wedding photographer Waterton Park Hotel

Waterton Park hotel wedding photographer

Andy and Shelli booked me as their Waterton Park Hotel wedding photographer earlier this year and I am so glad they did. I love shooting small weddings and especially when there is some autumn colour around, although the weather could have been a little kinder for us. The day started bright and sunny but the cloud that had been predicted arrived just as we got into the grounds of Waterton Park for the photos. However, undeterred we pressed on in the wind and were caught by only the tiniest bit of drizzle for around 10 minutes or so.

The day began with the bridal preps in the old hall where we were able to capture some good candid shots and detail shots before heading out to photograph Andy with his dad and uncle, then back inside for the dressing of the bride and the bridal portraits. There was some lovely milky autumn sunshine for Shelli’s walk over to the wedding ceremony giving us some lovely candid shots as the girls headed over the bridge to meet the wedding guests. After the ceremony and having gathered everyone for the usual confetti shot, we soon discovered that no-one had actually brought any confetti so on the spur of the moment, we decided to use the autumn leaves instead and had the guests hurling these at the bridal couple! Onwards to the the hall for the family formals, the drinks and canapes before a quick shoot with the bridal party in a slight drizzle and ending up with just Shelli and Andy for their wedding shots. With a winter wedding like this, time is always against us as the dark nights prevent shooting after the wedding breakfast – it is pitch black by 6pm – but it does allow us to shoot against the floodlit hall which is not possible in July! There were no speeches, Andy simply welcomed the guests, many of whom had travelled up from Wales for the day, and then it was onto the food. Although there were only 30 guests during the day, another 150 rolled up for the evening reception and after the first dance we left them to continue to party and feast till the early hours. Andy and Shelli are heading off to Mauritius for a couple of weeks now and I am sure the weather will be a far cry from England in November :¬)

If you are thinking of getting married at Waterton Park Hotel and would like me to be your photographer on the day, just call the studio on 01924 229800 for a no obligation chat.

Wakefield commercial photographer: Beaumont Legal PR shoot

Beaumont Legal kindly booked me again as their Wakefield Commercial photographer for a PR shoot to illustrate four of their staff who have been picked to be trained as solicitors within the practice. The shoot was to capture some individual photos of the rising stars and also groups shots and a shot of them with one of the Beaumont directors. I’ve worked for Beaumont Legal around half a dozen times now and this is really good as it means I have developed a relationship with many of the staff which in turn makes the photo shoots fun and easy.

For the individual shots it was just a case of lighting them with a speedlight around 1/4 power, fitted with a 12″ softbox and brought in high from camera left while the fill was provided from a large window camera right. Using manual exposure around f/8 meant everything remained constant and then it was just a case of bringing in Hannah, Tom, Ben and Becky in turn. Using the banister provided them with a prop to lean on and made them fell immediately more at ease than had they been simply standing in front of me.

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Staples store launch

Hotmareketing were looking for a Wakefield Commercial Photographer to shoot the launch of the new Staples store in Wakefield when they came across my website and kindly commissioned me for the shoot. The brief was to photograph the ribbon cutting and then shots of the busy shop as people shopped for the launch bargains and special offers. What I didn’t expect when I arrived on site, was for a queue of people stretching half way round Cathedral Retail Park waiting for the doors to open at 9.00am! The minute the ribbon was cut, the shoppers piled in and for the first hour it was difficult just to move in the store, let alone get PR shots! As usual, it was a chore trying to get people to agree to being in photographs, this just seems to be the norm these days, but it makes life hard when I am being paid to get photos of ‘happy shoppers’ yet no-one will co-operate. Fortunately, I spotted an old friend among the masses and got him to pose and, over the course of the morning, I did manage to get one or two others to pose too.

Lighting is always a nightmare in these kind of situations as the shop is lit by fluorescent lighting which has a sickly cast but I did my best to overpower this by getting a speedlight fitted with a 12″ softbox very close in to the subject. Here is a small selection of the images from the day.
