Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Christmas Lights in Scotland

This week saw the start of my tour of ‘Wakefield commercial photographer tour of Scotland’ starting with a shoot at the Gyle Shopping Centre in Edinburgh. If I’m honest, there was limited scope here as the shopping centre was much smaller than I’d expected but the lights by MK Illuminations were right for the mall. As usual, I made sure I was on site for the blue hour to capture the lights that are either outside or against a glass atrium with the evening sky behind them. After shooting in the Gyle Centre, I started the journey north to Aberdeen where three more shopping malls were to be photographed.

Commercial photographer West Yorkshire: Morgan sports car shoot, Wentworth Woodhouse

commercial photographer Wakefield

Commercial photographer West Yorkshire: A stunning frosty morning with winter sunshine raking across the landscape greeted us as we arrived at Wentworth Woodhouse for a commercial photography shoot of a Morgan sports car. The shoot was to create some high quality images of the car to submit to an agency that provides cars to the film and television sector for use in period dramas. If I’m honest, the sunshine was a bit too much for the shoot as the shadow side of the car was around 3stops darker than the bright side. I used a couple of speedlights on low power to throw some light into the shadows and try and balance the exposure evenly throughout the image. Most of the shots were taken with a 24-70 f/2.8 lens although the opening shot is done with a 24mm PC-E tilt/shift lens which allowed me to create a stitched image while keeping the stonework of the house perfectly vertical. A 70-200mm f/2.8 was also used for some of the shots to flatten the perspective of the images.

West Yorkshire Commercial photographer: Bridges Centre, Sunderland

West Yorkshire commercial photographer: Another shoot for MK Illuminations, this time at the Bridges centre in Sunderland so it was north on the A1 for the second day running to get on site for around 3.30pm just ahead of sunset. This centre has a large glass atrium so being there just before sunset to make sure the lights are photographed in the blue hour was critical. Security were expecting me so no problems there and so it was straight into the shoot starting in the main mall before nipping outside to try and capture a shot looking back into the centre and the curtain of lights just behind the glass entrance wall. These shoots are never as easy as you might think and they involve a lot of running around frantically in the 40 minutes or so straight after sunset. Look out for the double exposure image created in camera with a slow shutter speed while revolving the 70-200mm within its own tripod collar!

model portfolio photographer West Yorkshire: Ink Doll shoot with Emily

Model portfolio photographer West Yorkshire: The photos I shot for Emily’s first portfolio a few weeks ago have done her well and have appeared in several online inked girls magazines and have built her a good following on Instagram and Twitter. Today I met up with Emily again today for a second shoot this time at her house where we used the spare bedroom as a location to shoot some lingerie and boudoir images. I used a Fuji XT1 for the shoot armed only with the 18-55mm and  couple of daylight balanced LED light panels to add to the window light in the room and give me enough speed to hand hold. We shot three outfits in around an hour as I had to head off to Sunderland for a commercial shoot at the Bridges Centre, but it was enough time to get us some keepers and test the location to make sure there was enough room to shoot. We will be shooting again in the New Year when I will have more time. Here are a few of my favourites from the shoot.

Wakefield commercial photographer : The Cornmill, Darlington

Wakefield commercial photographer: I headed up the A1 to Darlington this evening for my first shoot of the year for MK Illuminations. I’ve done Christmas lights photography for MK for the past few years and this year they kindly commissioned me again to shoot their northern lighting schemes. After studying the locations for the schemes, I decided to start with the Cornmill centre in Darlington as it is a small mall and within easy striking distance. There were no outside lights and no glass atrium so everything was confined to shooting inside and fighting with the fluorescent lights. I decided to go wide with some of the images and used the legendary Nikkor 16mm f/2.8 which is a true fisheye lens. I love the curves it creates in the images and the beauty of this lens is that, should the client not be so keen on the fisheye effect, the nikon software can correct the distortion to give a more natural looking wide angle image.

After searching on the web for a West Yorkshire boudoir photographer and finding my site, Aneta decided she’d travel over from Harrogate way for the shoot as she really liked the quality of the images on my site. The shoot was very relaxed and we got some great images from the outset. We shot around half a dozen outfits on various sets from white and black backgrounds to bedroom sets. Here are a few images from the shoot that Aneta has kindly let me publish and if you’d like to book me for a high quality boudoir shoot, just call the studio on 01924 229800
