West Yorkshire Property Photographer: Yorkshire Conservatory Outlet

I was recently commissioned as a West Yorkshire property photographer to shoot some brochure images for Yorkshire Conservatory Outlet and have been travelling around the region capturing images of some of their finished work. It’s been a real challenge in as much as the weather over the past few weeks has been poor with rain and grey skies for much of the latter part of June and early July – the time when I had to shoot the images! Commercial photography Lincolnshire: Fillingham Trees, Lincolnshire

The MAC Agency in Leeds often book me for commercial work up and down the country but this was my first commercial photography Lincolnshire style and it involved photographing Christmas trees in July! I was booked to photograph Fillingham Trees, one of the UK’s largest Christmas tree growers, for their new website and brochure work. The work was done now in order to be ready for a large trade show at which they exhibit in the autumn to show their buyers what they have to offer. The brief was to show that they are a large outfit backed by all the specialist machinery that it takes to grow, fell, wrap and pack the trees for market.

The day started grey and overcast but the sun broke through by mid morning bringing all the disadvantages of bright, high contrast, midday summer sun! However, the shoot went well and we got some great images of the machinery, the trees and the staff. For much of the time, I was able to work from a high platform tractor which gave some great views over the trees and for shooting down on the machinery. I so could use one of those platforms in my day to day commercial shooting! This is just a selection of images from the day. Nick and Ros pre-wedding: Sneak peek

save the date | pre-wedding shoot | engagement shoot | Nostell Priory wedding

Today was a pre-wedding meeting with Alice and Richard who are tying the knot at Nostell Priory on 24th July. I headed over to Alice’s family home in Hillam for the meeting and it also gave me a chance to scope out the setting for the big day as this is where she will travel from. The extensive gardens were great for our engagement shoot, a great way of us all getting to know each other and have a practice session with the camera. Not everyone is comfortable with being centre of attention in front of a camera but Alice and Richard had no problems and we captured some great relaxed images. The rose garden at Nostell should make a fine setting for the photos with the roses probably at their best at the end of July. The wedding will take place in the upper hall at the house then we will make our way over to the rose garden for the formals and the wedding party photos. So long as the weather holds, we’ll have a great time I’m sure.

Product photography: Bridget’s Boutique

Online retailer, Bridget’s Boutique, were looking for some product photography as part of a revamp of their website and to promote their own brand of underwear and accessories. They brought along a range of sports underwear and beach cover-ups as well as a few different styles of sunglasses. I suggested shooting the product images on a neutral grey background as this tends to suit most styles of fashion regardless of the colours of the outfits. I love the soft dove grey that I get by using a white infinity sweep and choking back the amount of light that hits it. As well as the standard product shots, I created a few impact shots for the opening page banner. The clothes were all pretty much straight forward but sunglasses are a different matter all together. The highly reflective lenses and plastic frames are very prone to specular highlights and large white reflections from the studio lights, but as an experienced product photographer, I managed to get around this problem.
