Wakefield Commercial photographer: Fashion shoot

Wakefield commercial photographer: Fashion photography shoot

Back to the studio after the festive break for my first commercial photography shoot of the year which happened to be a fashion photography shoot for a new clothing website. I suggested to the client that we shoot on a white sweep but that I would light it to around 20% grey. I think this is a really lovely colour and ideal for fashion photography as it suits most clothing colours. We shot around 30 items in this session using a totally inexperienced model, in fact, I think it was her first time. However, Lucy was a natural and we flew through the shoot and got some amazing images for the client, some of which you see here, and they were pretty much usable straight out of camera. After we’d done the catalog stuff, I did a quick shoot with Lucy using my new Pentax 645z medium format camera. I bought this beast just before Christmas and, although I’ve used it on some commercial work, I hadn’t yet tried it in the studio (I shot with a D810 for the fashion shoot for the file size) and I was keen to test it. So, the first two shots below are my first ever portraits with the 645z. OMG! I was shocked and amazed by the quality of the files! It outshines the 36mp Nikon D810 by miles, though it’s not entirely fair to compare these two bodies. I think I’ve just found the best camera I’ve ever used! Lots more to come on this I’m sure.

Leeds commercial photographer: Merrion Centre lights

Leeds commercial photographer: Merrion Centre Christmas lights

I spent my last shoot of 2016 as a Leeds commercial photographer capturing the Christmas lights in the Merrion Centre. As ever, I was working for my client Fizzco who do an amazing job of installing the festive lights in shopping malls up and down the country. I wasn’t expecting much of the Merrion Centre if I’m honest, it never strikes me as a pleasant place to shop and I figured there’d be flourescent lights all over the place. However, it just goes to show that one shouldn’t pre judge a place and it turned out to be very good. Fizzco’s ginat bauble that featured in Chapelfields in Norwich, also made an appearance here but this time doubling as Santa’s grotto!

Lincolnshire commercial photographer: Marshall’s Yard

Lincolnshire commercial photographer: Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough

Tonight, for one night only, in 2016 at least, I was a Lincolnshire commercial photographer as I headed out of the county  to photograph the Fizzco Christmas lights installation at Marshall’s Yard. Donning my green tights and green hat with pointy pheasant feather along with the Pentax 645z, I set off sown the A1 to Gainsborough. Unfortunately, the blue hour coincided with rush hour and it was a game of cat and mouse for me running out into the road to grab an image before the next onslaught of traffic as the lights chnaged back to green. However, in the end I managed to get the images I wanted before heading onwarads and southwards to Loughborough to give one of my natural history talks to Loughborough RSPB members’ group.

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: British Heart Foundation

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: 10yrs of BHF in Barnsley

I was contacted by a new client today, the British Heart Foundation, who were looking for a commercial photographer to cover a press and PR event to mark 10yrs of their shop in Barnsley. The brief was to go along and create images of the staff, the shop interior and some of the staff receiving long service awards.

Wakefield commercial photographer: Woolshops Christmas lights

Wakefield commercial photographer: Woolshops, Halifax

As dusk fell, I was in Halifax to photograph the Woolshops Christmas lights for my client Fizzco. I’ve never visited this shopping precinct before but I have to say, it looked very festive and I loved the backdrop of the hills beyond. The whole set was was outdoors so getting there at the ‘blue hour’ was essential to cpature the warmth of the bright, tungsten lights against the deep roayl blue of the sky just after sunset. The fact that the shops are on a hill (isn’t everything in Halifax?!) meant that I could shoot downhill and compress the scene with a 150mm tele on the Pentax 645z.
