Simon & Ruth’s wedding at the Sitwell Arms, Renishaw

Despite some ominous clouds, strong gusts and cool spells, the forecasted rain never appeared and Simon and Ruth had a great wedding day with a church service at Christ’s Church, Hackenthorpe, followed by a reception at the Sitwell Arms at Renishaw in South Yorkshire. Intermittent periods of sunshine and some awesome evening light allowed us to get some great images from the day, despite it being a challenging location from a photographers’ point of view. There’s a great selection of images to go at from this shoot but here are a few for a sneak preview before the couple jet off to Mexico to fetch me a bottle of tequila :¬)

The Doves fly into the studio

John Dove, his brother David and their boys Leighton & Lewis landed in the studio today for a group photo for John & David’s parents’ golden wedding. We had a fun, relaxed session and ended up with some great family photos and a good group shot that will make a great anniversary present.

The Dales again and more steam trains!

Squeezed in a another three day break in the Dales but without the sunny weather of the last visit :¬\ Spent the weekend dodging showers and waiting for some decent light for some dramtic landscapes but to no avail. By chance, I was at Ribble Head Vidauct when a steam train passed by; turns out to be the Scots Guardsman on its first mainline run for over 40 years since being retired at the end of steam days. Looking pristine in its original livery, it made a spectacular sight passing over the viaduct, but the weather was not the best for photography so I tried for it on its return journey over Dent Head in the evening – the light was even worse! At least I tried – would’ve been rude not to!

Laura’s studio shoot

August 12th – a day traditionally noted for shooting birds, so I decided to be no exception ;¬)

Laura came to the studio today for some portrait and fashion shots. I have photographed Laura previously in my old studio some two years ago at least. Anyway, she’s back for more and we did some really cool mono stuff to emphasise her skin tones and big dark eyes.

Crash test dummy

Leanne’s almost part of the funiture down at the studio nowadays which means I get to use her as my crash test dummy when I want to play with the studio lights – I just love messing around in the studio. This time, I wanted to create some sultry glamour shots and I achieved this by using some warm lighting and a low angle for drama and intimacy.

Free fallin’

I suppose one of the benefits of being a pro photographer is that, in theory at least, I should be able to come up with some quirky and different holiday snaps. So, in the spirit of the game, here’s my son Richard free falling from the sky around the afore mentioned Norber erratics.
