Luci & Adam’s pre-wedding shoot

What a great day for a pre wedding shoot – lots of autumn sunshine and blue skies – so it was great to catch up with Luci and Adam ahead of their Allerton Park wedding early next month. We met at the farm where Luci stables her horse, Merlin, and of course we had to get him in the shots too. Both Adam and Luci were relaxed in front of the camera and if we get today’s weather at Allerton when they’re all togged up, then its going to be a 30gig shoot as we photographers say :¬)

Matt & Lisa’s wedding at Kings Croft Hotel

Just a week after the pre-wedding shoot, I was back with Matt & Lisa but this time for the big day. They were married at St Cuthbert’s Church, Ackworth and then on to a reception at Kings Croft Hotel where we did most of the formals. Coming from a farming background, how else could the groom arrive at church other than on a vintage tractor?! He was followed closely by the majority of the guests who came by double decker bus and everything went to plan until the bride arrived minus the bouquet which she’d left on the kitchen table! With Uncle Les despatched to get said item, we used the extra bit of time to shoot the bride and bridesmaids in the lychgate before heading in to church.

Following the service, we all rode to Kings Croft on the vintage double decker bus which gave me a great opportunity to do some journalistic style photography. The weather held off for us during the photoshoot but the wind was a bit chilly for the bride and the guests. However, we got some great stuff and followed it with some dusk shots in much milder conditions after the wedding breakfast. Just prior to the first dance the guests were presented with a 150 image slideshow set to music which showed something from the whole day right up to the dusk shots. I have to say though, the projector at the hotel was just awful with no colour and not even in focus! Should have takan mine! Oh well, the slideshow did go down ok I think and it gave a flavour of the great images we captured on the day.

Emma’s baby bump shoot

Emma’s mother booked her a bump and baby shoot a couple of months ago as a suprise birthday present and today she was in the studio for the session. In just over 14 weeks she’ll be back with her partner and little bundle of joy for the second part of the shoot, but today we just did some relaxed maternity shots, both high key and low key.

To book your baby bump shoot, call 01924 229800 or visit the website for details.

Leeds Fashion Show 2010

After Roxy’s pin-up shoot and a quick sandwich, I headed off to Leeds to cover the Leeds Fashion Show 2010 at Leeds City Museum. I had an ‘access all areas’ pass which gave me great freedom to move around the venue from the backstage to catwalk and record the event. Shooting the catwalk was harder than I imagined, mainly because there was a phalanx of photographers from press and other agencies and each time a model headed down the catwalk, strobes were popping like like a million lighting flashes in a tropical storm! This meant that quite frequently, my exposure would coincide with someone else’s and their combined flash would over-expose my image! However, I just kept plugging away and got some good images that I feel captured the event. I was disappointed that it wasn’t a raised catwalk as it meant that the models got lost amongst the crowd at times and also I was having to shoot over the top of two rows of guests. I can’t comment on the fashion but there were a few striking faces that I would like to shoot under more controlled conditions and don’t ask me who the designers were as I was too busy to pick up a programme to find out!

Roxy’s pin-up girl shoot

Roxy arrived at the studio today for a ‘pin-up’ girl shoot. She was after the style of images that used to adorn posters around the 40s and 50s, a vintage glamour look. I shoot a lot of glamour portfolios for girls but mostly of what I’d class as the “FHM” style so a Betty Paige style shoot was something different and a bit of a challenge. I do like a challenge though :¬) I decided to shoot high key and on a white infinity curve, this is a simple technique but uses a lot of lights, well, four to be precise, but it gave me the shadowless look I was after. Then, a bit of post processing on the images to give them that painterly feel like the posters of old and here’s what I came up with. Its the pose too, that is very suggestive of the pin-up girl look. Great fun, more to come!

If you’d like a pin-up girl shoot, an FHM shoot or even just a family shoot, just call me on 01924 229800 or visit the website.
