A brief abscence from the blog entries as I’ve been in Scotland shooting a few wildlife images. I still enjoy the wildlife photography and although it remains mainly a hobby, I still get a buzz out of shooting it. Not going to burden the blog with lots of images, they are all over on the wildlife website, but I couldn’t resist a cute red squirrel image :¬)

Sarah is one of the top dogs at Xerox and, when she’s not jetting around the world to high powered meetings, she’s busy with internet conference calls which require a photo of her that can be displayed to all parties on the call. Needing an updated image and realising she wasn’t going to get away with cutting a headshot out of a holiday snap, Sarah booked in for a quick session to get some simple, but quality, headshots ahead of a big international conference call next week. I kept things very simple lighting wise, using a single monobloc modified with a gridded beauty dish for some nice soft light against a white studio wall and then simply dropped in a black background and added a warm hairlight.

Lucy came by the studio for a shoot that was partly a Valentine’s shoot for her boyfriend but also a shoot for herself as she’s had a hankering to have a go in front of a camera for a while. I have to say, Lucy was a natural from the outset and was very relaxed and really need little direction. The upshot of all this is that we managed to get some great images in a short space of time that will make a fabulous Valentine’s gift and a great keepsake for herself. I think, however, we have not seen the last of Lucy and she will be back in the studio before very long. Here are a few images from the shoot to give you an idea of what we did.

I met Kitty at an event I attended last year and bumped into her again at a friend’s birthday bash at Hotel Malmaison in Leeds the other week where we got chatting about a shoot. I’ve been scouting for some new locations to use in addition to the studio and Kitty suggested her boyfriend’s flat in Leeds might be a suitable venue. So, tonight we met up at the well appointed flat for a location shoot to test the venue as a future location and to use Kitty as the model.
This was Kitty’s first time in front of the camera so she was a little nervous but got into the swing of things as the shoot progressed. She modelled a little black number followed by some designer lingerie and I used only a couple of small speedlights to light the whole shoot. All the images below were lit with two old Nikon SB28 flashes, a small softbox and reflector brolly and a couple of CTO gels to warm the flashlight to around 6000k. It was difficult to blend the flashes to ambient as the room was lit by those modern long life bulbs which, to my eye, have a sickly yellow cast somewhere between the old tungsten bulbs and flourescent striplights! Natalie and Alan left the south of England and were back in Yorkshire today for a meeting with the registrar and a suit fitting, so I took the opportunity to catch up with them for a pre-wedding meeting and and a photoshoot. The weather forecast was pretty grim so I met them on their home turf in Bradford at Cartwright museum thinking we might be able to move indoors if needs be. However, we braved the showers and had a very quick session around the grounds before the onset of heavy rain and wind. Natalie and Alan are marrying next month at the Great Victoria Hotel in Bradford which is a new venue for me and one that I’m very much looking forward to shooting with its ultra-modern interior. Nikki dropped by the studio today for a portfolio shoot and we covered a variety of styles from fashion to lingerie. At around 6′ tall in bare feet, the figure of a supermodel, olive skin and a European look, it was quite an easy job for me to get a few reasonable images :¬)
