Paul & Louise pre-wedding shoot

Paul & Louise are getting married on April 2nd at Wentbridge House Hotel so it was high time to be doing the pre-wedding meeting followed by a bit of a shoot. The skies were white and featureless but at least there was no rain and it was reasonably mild for the shoot as we walked around the fabulous grounds of Brodsworth Hall before heading into the cafe for a well earned cappuccino. Both Paul and Louise were relaxed and well up for the shoot so things bode well for the big day at Wentbridge, let’s just hope we get some warm spring sunshine on the day.

Terri & Angel in the studio

Had Terri Valentine and Angel Altilar in the studio today for a bit of a goth/alternative themed shoot. Always nice to get someone in the studio who appreciates a good metal soundtrack :¬) I just shot some really simple stuff against a white wall and then the rest on a black background, mostly of Terri who had come for the shoot but I couldn’t resist a few of Angel as well, especially not with those hypnotic electric blue eyes! Just a few shots for now, more to come as I have another shoot tonight, though I won’t be able to post any of those images as its a suprise family shoot for parents and some of the parents’ friends are regular blog followers.

Andy & Christina at The Ramada Hotel, Bingley

The weather can either make or break a wedding shoot and today was no exception! The forecast was set to be cloudy, foggy and cold with a chance of brightening skies later in the afternoon so we set off to Andy and Tina’s wedding at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Bingley fearing the worst. However, as we arrived at the venue, the skies cleared and the sun came through giving just the most fabulous shooting conditions for the rest of the day! Although there was a nip in the air, we were outside for all of the shoot as the low winter sun was just perfect and, as ever, I’ve just ended up with so many really nice shots it is hard to choose just what to put in the blog post! I think I will be revamping the blog and including some kind of slideshow feature so that I can showcase more of the images. As well as the weather, the couple play a very big part in getting the shots that capture the day and both Andy & Tina were well up for a photo session. This makes all the difference as you can see in the results :¬)

Nikki on location

Today I did a fashion & glamour shoot with Nikki on location at a swanky apartment in Leeds to add new images to her portfolio. I love shooting on location as it allows for a great deal of creativity with the lighting and also gives a wide variety of backdrops which add variety to the images. Today we shot in front of  the French doors overlooking the river and Leeds town centre, but my favorite set were in front of the mirror. However, I was niggled by the fact that I couldn’t get the far bedside lamp to light for added background interest – attention to detail like this is what sets an image apart and as a working pro photographer, my eye tends to scan the viewfinder picking up such things, probably more than concentrating on the model. These images were all lit with a couple of very old Nikon speedlights and shoot through brollies, once again showing that gear is not everything – great images can be created using minimalist equipment.

To book me for your portfolio shoot, just call 01924 229800 or visit the website. If you are a photographer wanting to learn how to light using off camera flash and minimal gear, just drop me a line to be added to the mailing list for the forthcoming workshops.

Alan and Natalie’s wedding at The Great Victoria Hotel, Bradford

Natalie & Alan were up from Brighton for their wedding at The Great Victoria Hotel, Bradford and not even the heavy rain and grey skies could have prevented Natalie  from having a great time on her wedding day! Right from the outset, Natalie was up for a laugh in front of the camera and I think it really shows in the photos – we got some corkers! Everything was just perfect – the boutique style interior of the Great Victoria, the gothic stonework of the exterior and and the streets looked to be paved with gold as the wet flagstones reflected the winter afternoon sun. The wedding was a small affair which meant we had plenty of time both before the ceremony and afterwards to capture some great shots, shooting indoors before the wedding while the rain battered down, then afterwards we had 45mins outside between the rain with some blue skies and low sun! There are loads of images I could upload, but here are a few to give you a taste of what we got up to :¬)

Naomi’s baby bump shoot

Naomi headed over from Barnsley tonight for a baby bump shoot down at the studio. As usual, the shoot was great fun and relaxed and we shot a variety of outfits on both the white and black infinity curves. Here are a few images from the shoot that I’ve quickly processed up. The bump shoots are getting really popular and there’s a few coming up in the next couple of weeks. To book me for your baby bump shoot, just give me a call on 01924 229800 or visit the website for more details.
