Natalie & Johnny at Cannon Hall

After meeting these guys just last week for the pre-wedding shoot, I was back with Natalie and Johnny for their big day at Cannon Hall, Barnsley followed by a shindig at the Capri restaurant in Horbury. The day went so well and the weather was just glorious. We started with the bridal preps at Nat’s mum’s place before joining the groom to ride vintage double deckers to Cannon Hall. Natalie arrived in a beautiful Rolls Royce in perfect spring sunshine for the ceremony in the great hall. Outside we managed (with some difficulty!) to avoid the hoardes of public day visitors that were thronging the place to capture some fun images of the bridal party and, of course, the couple themselves. I have to say, after the recce the other day, I had loads of ideas for where to shoot but in the end we were forced to go where there was least public but I’m pleased with what we got anyway. Following, the departure of the guests in the two vintage buses, Natalie and Johnny headed down to the Capri in the Roller where they met up with many more friends who hadn’t been at Cannon Hall. A lively party ensued with typical Italian restaurant style hustle and bustle, all to the sounds of a steel band. Following the wedding breakfast, I managed to grab Natalie for a quick arty bridal shoot and then it was in for the first dance and to party the night away! Great day guys! A slideshow follows and, as always, a few stills for the iPhone users.

Tovey & Little Dental Shoot

I’ve been going to Tovey & Little dental surgery for 20yrs or so as a patient, but today I was there in my capacity as a commercial photographer to shoot some images of the practice and staff for their new website. I hadn’t realised just how many staff there are and I can see now why they had to move to larger premises in Northgate! My brief was to mainly photograph the dentists, nurses and reception staff but to also shoot some images of the dentists at work and some key rooms in the practice, such as the sterilising room. So, armed with my camera rigged with a 70-200mm f/2.8 and a few old speedlights, I set about the job of tracking everyone down for their portraits. As always some were more reluctant than others to be photographed but I did get everyone in the end apart from four who are away at present. I made a concious effort to try and shoot the portraits in different locations where ever possible so that the headshots didn’t all have the same look and in the main we managed this. Here are a few statics for the iPhone users, while everyone else can enjoy the full Internet experience with a slideshow from the day’s shoot :¬)

Boudoir shoot for Christina

Right, your partner’s 50th is approaching fast, he’s got everything really, what do you get him that would be different and original and of course, very special to mark the occasion? After chatting to a friend, Christina decided a boudoir shoot was just the job! So, on a very warm and sunny March day, Christina came down to the studio for just that, a boudoir shoot to create some gorgeous images to go in a bespoke black leather album. To get round the initial nerves, we shot some portraits in casual wear before moving on to the lingerie and Christina certainly had a wide variety of outfits for us to choose from. Like all the boudoir ladies before her, Christina soon found the shoot to be relaxed and good fun and nowhere near as daunting as people imagine and she soon got into the swing of it. I think the pictures show that you don’t have to be a professional model to do a shoot – with my experience and guidance you’re guaranteed to get some great images for you to treasure.

Water cooler shoot

The studio was packed to the gunnels today with various styles of water cooler that I was shooting for local firm Thirsty4water (part of the Wilkes Group). I’m not going to laden the blog with images of water coolers as I realise they have special interest appeal ;¬)  It’s interesting to note, however, that shooting products like this is much harder than it looks – controlling the specular highlights and reflections in shiny metals really takes some control with the studio lighting. Lots of polyboards are used to soften shadows while black flags are used to subtract light and kill reflections and light spill. A good exercise in lighting techniques, so very enjoyable for me :¬) I also took some PR shots of  managing director, Simon Wilkes, in addition to coolers.

If you are in need of ice cold water in your working environment, contact Thirsty4water and if you are in need of a commercial product photographer, contact me :¬) Studio number is 01924 229800 or visit the website .

Natalie & Johnny pre-wedding shoot

Broke off from the Woolley wedding fayre to meet up with Natalie and Johnny whose wedding I’ll be shooting at Cannon Hall next weekend. If the weather holds like it has been, it should be a 20gb day from what I saw of the venue on the recce t’other day! After the ceremony at Cannon Hall, its off to the Capri restauarant at Horbury for the big party and the guests will be travelling to and from the venues by double decker so, should be a fun day all round! A quick shoot of the couple in the grounds of Woolley Hall along with daughters Georgie and Ellie, who will be bridesmaids, finished off the meeting.

Greedy Little Pig Hog Roast

This evening I was at the elegant Woodsome Hall golf club to shoot some images of Greedy Little Pig Hog Roast company for their new website. Joanne & David of GLP travel widely to venues with their delicious hog roasts to provide tasty meals at weddings, parties and other functions but have recently decided they need a web site to further promote the business. Of course, a good web site needs good pictures and the guys decided that, unlike the dozens of other hog roast companies that have just used snaps on their websites, they’d commission a set of images to convey just how good their services are.

Although the venue was pretty impressive, the hog roast didn’t take place until 9pm and it was outside! This meant I was shooting in complete darkness which isn’t ideal – a twilight shoot with some light in the sky would have been preferable – and the only light under the gazebo was from the hot tray! The problem is not so much lighting the product but being able to light the product and bring in some of the ambient light (which at 9pm is non existent!). Undeterred, I used ball bungied a couple of speedlights into the gazebo for accent and used a third speedlight in a softbox for key. I’m pleased with the images given the difficult conditions and I’ve selected a few to give an idea of what we shot. Oh! And I did get to eat the pork sandwich that we used as a sample. Nom nom!

If, like David & Joanne, you need a professional photographer to really boost your product’s image, give me a call on 01924 229800. You may just be suprised at how affordable it is!
