Justin and Claire pre-wedding shoot

I met up with Justin and Claire today for a pre-wedding meeting and photoshoot ahead of their wedding which will take place on 3rd September at St Cuthbert’s Church, Ackworth followed by a reception at Kings Croft Hotel, Pontefract. For the pre-wedding meeting we decided on Brodsworth Hall as the grounds are just spectacular for a shoot and we can sit and have a nice cappiccino while we go through the order of the day. Justine and Claire also brought along daughter Ruby who will be flower girl on the day and we managed to include her in a few of the shots as she ran around the grounds enjoying herself in the summer sun.

Paul & Louise at Wentbridge House Hotel

The day stayed fine and largely dry for Louise and Paul’s wedding at Wentbridge House Hotel today, with only light showers once they’d gone in for the wedding breakfast. We started the day at Louise’s parent’s house in North Elmsall before dropping down into Wentbridge to catch up with the groom and the other guests ahead of the bride’s arrival and then on into the Crystal suite for the ceremony. The guests enjoyed a drinks reception on the lawn in warm, bright sunshine while we did the formal photographs and we finished with the bride and groom shots just as the clouds began to gather. The rain did, however, stop us getting to a nearby location I’d scouted for some romantic evening shots in a meadow as the grass was too wet so we ended up with an evening shoot in the brasserie before the Friday night diners arrived. Despite being in a heavy metal band, Paul & Louise chose something conventional for their first dance but everyone enjoyed the ACDC track ‘Highway to Hell’ as they came down the aisle!

Craig & Claire pre-wedding shoot at Temple Newsam

A very dark and drizzly afternoon as I met up with Claire and Craig for a pre-wedding meeting and photoshoot at Temple Newsam near Leeds. Their wedding is at the end of the month at St Mary’s Church, Garforth and then on to Kings Croft Hotel in Pontefract for the wedding breakfast and evening reception. Claire came by herself to meet me and look at my work last year, so today was the first time I’d met Craig but they are both very relaxed in front of the camera so I’m hoping we’ll get some great images on the day if the weather holds. On the down side, I have to admit to feeling very old in front of these two as neither looked a day above 18 despite being in their 20s! Here are a few shots from today’s meet taken in very gloomy conditions.

Charles & Joanne at Headingley Cricket Ground

The rain was lashing down as I headed to the Village Hotel, Leeds to shoot Joanne’s bridal preps and it hadn’t eased up much as we set off to Leeds Civic Hall for the the groom shots with Charles, but fortunately it had stopped as we arrived there and we were able to get out into Millenium Square for a few shots. The rain stayed away as Joanne arrived but came back with a heavy shower just as the ceremony ended forcing us to do the group shots indoors. However, it did let up enough for us to get the bridal party out on the imposing frontage for 20 mins; I decided to do most of the photos at the civic hall because at least we had some shelter and I guessed it would be wild and exposed up at the cricket ground and I was banking on good evening sunlight in the late afternoon. I wasn’t disappointed! The evening sunlight around 7pm was gorgeous and allowed us to shoot Charles and Joanne on the outfield with the stadium as a backdrop before heading up into the executive suite for the evening reception.

Dannii in the studio

Dannii dropped by the studio for a fashion and glamour shoot this afternoon and regular blog followers will recognise her as one of the models from my recent Manchester lighting workshop but, suprisingly, this is the first time we’ve shot together on a one-to-one basis. When Dannii modelled for me at the workshop, I wasn’t shooting apart from the initial demo so it was great to have a chance to work with her in the studio and outside in the garden on a fabulous summer’s day. We shot a variety of outfits from fashion to lingerie, initially on a white and tangerine infinity curves, before moving through the studio shooting in the bathroom, on the spiral staircase and eventually ending up outside for some summer lingerie shots.

Horbury School Prospectus shoot

Today I was working with new clients Horbury Design helping with their development of the new prospectus for Horbury School. Like all the other school shoots I’ve done, it was a hectic shooting schedule – dashing from one class to another to get the shot before moving on to the next location and by the end of the afternoon I was as drained as my camera’s battery ;¬) The school has pupils from year 7-11 and as so the arrival of a photographer with lighting and assistant tended to cause quite a bit of a distraction to the younger pupils which means its critical to get in, visualise the shot, light it and get out in as little time as possible but the speed of each shoot is what adds to the pressure and makes the day such hard work. As ever, I used a couple of speedlights for most of the shots as they are so portable and easy to set up and shooting with them close in and at low power means they will just keep popping all day long. We hit several classes including history, languages, ITC, technology, PE, the hair salon and drama to get a broad range of subjects and ended the day with a special tea party with the headmistress to reward the school’s highest achievers. Cakes and buns all round!

Only a couple of images at the moment due to an embargo, once the prospectus is finally out I’ll add some more.
