Nick & Rachel at Oulton Hall

Poor Rachel had been fretting about the weather forecast for today and I have to say it was forecast to be very heavy rain, but she needn’t have worried – I told her at the pre-wedding meeting I don’t do wet weather weddings and I was proven correct! Despite a few spots of rain, the downpours held off and we did all the photos outside in the grounds of this spectacular wedding venue and by early evening the light was superb and we were still outside having a laugh with the friends shots. The whole wedding was a blast and a pleasure to shoot and there were some very talented singers and musicians numbered among the guests because Nick & Rachel met at the Royal Academy of Music and both are also talented singers; Nick’s even had a top 10 hit but don’t ask me what it was – he doesn’t do death metal so I would never have heard it ;¬)

After the wedding breakfast, everyone trooped outside to enjoy the evening and shoot the friends and relatives before gathering in the bar outside the Oulton Suite where there was a collection of instruments for the musicians and singers to have a chill-out jamming session and I have to say they were all excellent. After the first dance and before the band, Nick suprised Rachel by taking to the stage and singing her favourite song and he’s not bad at singing I have to admit! I have so many photos to go at its hard to choose what to blog, but here are some stills for the iPhone users denied the full rich internet experience and small slideshow for everyone else :¬)

Jonathan & Adelle at Cold Coniston Hotel

Today I met up with Jonathan and Adelle at Cold Coniston Hotel near Skipton for a pre-wedding meeting and shoot. They are getting married here (a new venue for me) at the end of August and as they were up there for a meeting with the wedding planner, I thought I go along to scout the venue and catch up with them. I have to say there are a number of photo opportunities here if we get the weather and if it is a bit unsettled, there’s some great indoor areas to work with as well. For today’s shoot though, we just stuck to the wedding terrace in order to keep the better areas for when they’re in their finery on the big day. Here are a few shots from today with more to come on August 27th :¬)

Claire & Craig at Kings Croft Hotel, Pontefract

Claire and Craig’s big day seems to have come round fast but what a day! The grey skies of the morning soon gave way to deep blue and the sun shone brightly as we arrived at Kings Croft for the reception. The couple were married at St Mary’s church Garforth, just a stones throw from Claire’s family home before heading south to Pontefract for the big party. Although Craig (the groom) is 25 and Shaun (his bro) is 22, I got the distinct feeling I was shooting a school prom rather than a wedding as we did the groom and ushers before the service ;¬) After the service we used the well kept churchyard for some bride and groom shots and then on to the reception where we did the formals, the bridal party and a few more of the bride and groom before the wedding breakfast. Later in the evening we hit the grounds again for some more shots as the sun began to mellow and the light levels dropped and we finished the evening with the first dance. I really enjoyed myself in Claire and Craig’s company and it was such a pleasure to work with these guys and their very welcoming families. A great day all round! Here’s a slideshow with just a few of the images from the day – so difficult to choose what to put in as I’ve so many to go at. There will be some stills in the next day or so but if you can’t view the slideshow because you’ve got an iPhone, well you’ve got an iPhone :¬)

Hanson Bricks – Barratt Homes Shipyard Road, Selby

Another Hanson Bricks of London commission to shoot some architectural images of their finished projects. This time I was back in Selby to photograph the Barratt Homes development at Shipyard Road, off Ousegate which is built using Hanson’s red clay blocks rather than bricks. I’ve had the commission the back burner for a week or so just waiting for the right weather and today was the day: The first real sunny day we’ve had in a while and conditions were perfect for the shoot with plenty of bright sunshine and clear blue skies. Normally I don’t photograph in these harsh lighting conditions but for this project it was just what was needed to give crisp, clean edges to the buildings and enhance the rich terracotta hue of the blockwork. The brief was to shoot some arty angular shots rather than full on perfectly symmetrical images so this is what I came up with.

Justine’s portfolio shoot

Justine dropped by the studio today for a portfolio shoot covering fashion to glamour. A very experienced and widely travelled model, Justine has been taking a break from the industry after having her daughter but now she’s getting back to work and was in need of some updated images. We began by shooting some high key fashion on a white infinity curve and then switched to a black curve before moving through the studio shooting in the bathroom, the garden and ending up on the spiral staircase. I think we got some great images in the short space of time we had and I’m sure I’ll be working with Justine again soon.

Rachel & Nick pre-wedding shoot at Kirkstall Abbey

I met up with Nick and Rachel at Kirkstall Abbey today to have a bit of a pre-wedding shoot ahead of their wedding early next month. Although the couple live in London, Rachel is a Keighley girl and so  they are heading north for the wedding at the spectacular Oulton Hall at Rothwell. For the shoot today, we decided on Kirkstall Abbey as a half way meeting place for us and its a great place for a shoot with lots of medieval stonework. Its the first pre-wedding shoot I’ve done here as the last few I’ve done at Kirkstall have been in the museum gardens as the abbey has always been closed in a the evening. We were in fairly early and had it to ourselves for the most part and here are a few shots from the session.
