Well, we’ve certainly had more snow here in Ryhill than I can remember in decades and after finally getting out for the first time in a few days to visit my parents, I decided to skip the editing for a while and go out with the camera. I walked down to the River Went in Low Ackworth and visited some of the haunts I used to play in as a child just to see what had changed and hopefully to get some snowy images. The temperatures were sub-zero with blue skies and white clouds – everywhere was picture perfect! The landscape reminded me very much of a winter trip I made to Finland a few years ago to photograph goshawks. Each and every minute twig and grass stalk was covered in delicate ice crystals and looked exquisite when back lit by the low winter sun. I shot quite a few landscapes but enjoyed shooting directly into the sun to try and capture some lens flare and to highlight the hoar frost on the vegetation. A few images here to show what I got, though as nice as they are, I should have been in the studio today, not out doing landscapes. So far this week, the snow has cost me three shoots in the studio so, while I admit it looks pretty, I now need a quick thaw to set in before I loose next week’s bookings! :¬\
