ITV’s “Four Weddings” with Andy & Helen

One of my friends, who is a wedding photographer in York, picked up a wedding from Helen who was a bridesmaid at a shoot he did last year. But this was a wedding with a difference: the whole wedding was to be filmed by ITV’s ‘Four Weddings’ programme. I’ve never seen the programme or even heard of it until Ian asked if I would help him out with the shoot,  but basically, four brides all attend each other’s weddings and appraise and critique the whole affair in terms of dress, venue, theme etc etc. and as I understand it, then score the wedding (Meeow!). Anyway, I’m not a TV person, apart from watching QI and, of course, the hilarious Family Guy (BBC3 late night – you have to watch this!), but I was interested in going along to help out and see how the film crew worked. The wedding was at St Mary’s church, Mirfield followed by a reception at Ponderosa Lakeside restaurant just a few minutes away.

My brief was to go to the church and shoot the groom and then act as second shooter, picking up some candid stuff and helping organise the formals. I did however, have a prime shooter session with Helen and Andy during the bride & groom shots. This is the bit I enjoy most at weddings – capturing those intimate moments between the couple on their big day without getting in their faces. Anyhow, it all went smoothly and, despite the large amount of equi pment and film crew, I think we all managed to keep out of each other’s way and if they got footage anything like we got stills, then the episode of ‘Four weddings’ should be well worth watching. Just now, I can’t say when it will be aired, but as soon as I find out I’ll blog it here.
