Fashion shoot with Shannon

It was such a beautiful day today making me anticipate a glorious sunset so I contacted the team to get Shannon on standby for a location shoot in the last two hours of daylight. I chose a cornfield on the edge of our village for the shoot as there are still plenty of the big round bales to use as a props and at 17:30 we were on site and setting up. Shannon is only 15 but did a great job as model and I’m pleased with the images we got. The idea of a sunset soon disappeared as the sun dropped behind a huge bank of clouds within about 15mins of us starting to shoot! It then clouded up pretty quickly and even felt like it was going to rain! We only did two changes of clothes but it was enough to get us a selection of images and I think we will try again if we get another good autumn evening although I have some ideas for a woodland shoot with stunning autumn colour. I used a 500w monobloc and travelpack to light Shannon on all the shots, initially to fill shadows but then as the key light as the daylight levels rapidly dropped.

If you would like to join me for 1-2-1 or small group session and learn about shooting with a model on location, just call the studio on 01924 229800 or use the contact form to add your name to the mailing list to learn about some new workshops.

Glamour portfolio shoot with Layla

Layla travelled over from Preston today for a glamour shoot at the studio. The aim was to get a good set of lingerie shots for her portfolio and to send to various publications. We did just about the whole shoot in the bathroom and finished with a few on the metal spiral staircase. Just so busy editing the latest shoots and with another glamour shoot booked this week, I’m only posting a couple of images for now! I will try and post a few more soon.

Beauty Lighting with Laura

Ran one of my regular bi-monthly lighting demonstrations at Wakefield Camera Club tonight using Laura as my model. This is the first time I’ve met and worked with Laura but hopefully you will see something coming up soon from a shoot we have in mind later this month. Tonight though, I showed a simple beauty light set up using a single light in a brollybox and a tri-flector to fill in the shadows. Using a big light close in like this gives a lovely soft wrap around light and the reflector just below the chin provides subtle fill and brings out the eye colour. This shot was taken by one of the members, Jannine McCarthy, and post production was done by me.

If you’d like to book a 1-2-1 workshop in lighting for potraiture at the studio with one of our regular models, just drop me a line or call me on 01924 229800 for a chat. Why not share the cost with a small group of up to four friends?

Nostell Priory wedding photographer: Lee & Joanne

Phew! What a scorcher for Lee & Joanne at Nostell Priory today! With temperatures in the high 20s, it certainly wasn’t the day to be wearing heavy wedding dresses and stiff morning suits but everyone looked splendid in the warm autumn sunshine. We caught up with Joanne at her mum’s in Alverthorpe for the prep shots before heading over to Wragby church to catch up with Lee and his entourage of groomsmen before the ceremony. The bridesmaids  arrived by stretch limo closely followed by the bride and her dad but it was straight into church as things were running a little later than planned and another wedding ceremony was due in the church in a couple of hours. Following the service and the confetti shots at the church, the whole wedding party walked down to the Riding School at Nostell Priory where they were greeted by Craig and the gang from Dine with cool refreshing drinks and canapes before we moved on to the formal photos. We had to be quick with the photos as the heat was intense in the south facing rose garden and it was just way too hot to be out there. We got some really nice shots before taking a breather and heading in early for the wedding breakfast and a long night of partying :¬)

Nostell is a great place for a wedding and the staff at Dine will make it a memorable day – have a look at the Dine website for details of how to book the venue. Danielle or Craig will be able to show you some of my wedding albums when you go to look round and if you’d like to book me, just call the studio on 01924 229800:¬)

Kenwood Hall wedding photographer: Michael & Claire

Just a week after the pre-wedding shoot at Nostell Priory, I was again with Michael and Claire but this time for the big day shoot! The whole shebang was taking place at Kenwood Hall Hotel, a new venue for me, and so we began the day in the bedroom doing the bridal preps before moving outside to catch up with Michael. The weather was glorious and despite the breeze, it was still  a hot one for the guys in the suits. The grounds were excellent for the photography and we got some good relaxed images as we walked to the lake and back for the shots. Here are a few from the day.
