Black Swan Hotel wedding: Ashley & Rebecca

After an unbelievable week of heavy rain and high winds, I was expecting a real shocker of a day in Helmsley for Ashley and Rebecca’s’s wedding at the Black Swan Hotel. However, the rain clouds parted and winter sun shone brightly all day, albeit windy and cold, and the North Yorkshire town had a real Christmas feel which can’t fail to have impressed the couple’s families who’d travelled from Surrey and Milton Keynes for the wedding. Rebecca got ready in the Royal Oak on the market square before making the short journey to All Saint’s Church for the service. Rebecca’s’s sister and bridesmaid, Victoria, entertained the guests during the signing of the register with her wonderful flute playing and then it was back out into the winter sun for the photos. Everyone put on a brave face and pretended to be warm while we did the formals and the bride & groom shots, then it was off to the Black Swan for a hot toddy and a good meal and to stand in front of the open fires to thaw out. After the speeches we did a short stint outside again to get a few shots in front of the hotel while it was all lit up against the dark winter sky.

Actor headshots: Carl

Carl’s acting career has him currently working in an internet soap but he is hoping for bigger things and required a few headshots to send to his acting agency with a view to boosting his career. I created a set of headshots on a white inifinity curve but dropped the light off it to give me around 30% grey for the shots.

Black Swan Helmsley: Ashley & Rebecca pre-wedding

I’m shooting Rebecca and Ashley’s wedding next week at the Black Swan in Helmsley, North Yorkshire and due to all sorts of complications and busy schedules on both our parts, we only just managed to squeeze in a pre-wedding shoot! We were intending to meet at Bolton Abbey but due to my (and Rebecca’s) busy workload, we ended up more local at Kirkstall Abbey but the location and weather couldn’t have been better for the session and we ended up with some great images before going through the details of the big day. Fingers crossed for weather like this next Sunday!

Royal Victoria Place, Tonbridge Wells

A long journey today for a lights shoot at Royal Victoria Place down in Tonbridge Wells. I’ve been here before but there are different lights this year and we needed some shots of the exterior which we could do last year due to various reasons. Anyhow, success in all quarters this year and a quick montage to show the results as I don’t have time to post lots just now!

Jackson Square, Bishop’s Stortford

Straight from Darla’s shoot, I headed south down the A1 to Bishop’s Stortford in Essex to photograph MK Illuminations’ lighting setup there. The rain and fog en route was horrendous and even worse coming back but at least while I was there the rain had abated. The large blue bows were the key feature here and so far I haven’t seen these anywhere else. It’s amazing how many different styles of lights MK has!

Newborn shoot: Darla’s first photo shoot

I photographed Leanne’s bump shoot with Sky Living a few weeks ago and today Leanne came back with 4 week old Darla and dad Lee for a very quick shoot for a Christmas present. Leanne just wanted a shot of Darla on Lee’s  arm as a gift for his mum but she looked so cute in her little red dress and headband that I just had to shoot a portrait of her while she was still asleep. It took just a couple of minutes to set up some blankets and a hot light for a quick snap of her before shooting her on Lee’s arm. We really did only take a few shots as the studio is in a state (I am extending the shooting space by knocking a wall through so there was dust everywhere!) and we were all short on time. Leanne and Darla will be back after the Christmas break for a proper newborn shoot.
