Wakefield glamour photographer: Victoria

Victoria lives not far from my studio and I’d often seen her walking past on her way to the local shop, so it was a pleasant surprise when she contacted me via Facebook for a shoot unbeknown to either of us the we’d regularly passed in the streets! The shoot style Victoria had chosen was a lingerie shoot as confidence booster since having her first child, Amber, two years ago. Once we got her over the initial nerves, things started to go really well and we got some great images that shows she’s still got what it takes :¬)

Lighting demo: Wakefield Camera Club

I did another of my one light lighting demonstrations to Wakefield Camera Club last night using Lesley as my model. One light can deliver some good portraits with a lot of depth so long as you bring the light in very close and also use a technique known as feathering. Here is a shot using the set up and later, I added a reflector and a hair light to give the members something different to work on. Lesley had come straight from the tattoo parlour in Leeds and her right arm was freshly inked, sore and a little swollen but made for great images :¬)

Travel Photography: The Camargue

The blog’s been quiet of late due to school holidays and also my recent 5 day shoot down in the south of France in the Camargue. The Camargue is hot and dry region that was once a huge area of saltmarsh but agriculture is taking its toll on the region and the once pristine wildlife habitat is now shrinking to a fraction of its former self and remains at it’s best in the protected national park region. Although well known to bird and wildlife enthusiasts as a region rich in species, the Camargue is also famous for its breed of white horses. The stocky, short-legged horse of the region is well known in France and is a big feature of the area with stables and pony trekking everywhere you turn. However, I went there not for trekking but to photograph these famous horses running in the sea and through the marismas (saltmarsh). Cliched I know, but I just wanted to do it! I also spent many hours photographing the flamingos of the Camargue as well as many other species of herons and egrets. Those of you that know me will be aware of my passion for nature photography and you can find more images over on my wildlife website –  Wildscenes. I shot over 100gb of images (around 6000 shots!) so editing will be a mammoth process and the used CF cards are stacked on my desk like gaming chips! Here’s a taster but checkout Wildscenes for more images over the next few weeks.

Sarah & Leigh pre-wedding shoot

Sarah & Leigh (his spelling!) are getting hitched at Hey Green, Marsden in a few weeks time so a pre-wedding meet and shoot was in order. I decided to meet up in the heart of Wakefield for the shoot, just for something a bit more urban than I’ve been shooting of late. I’d spotted this location while doing some shots for WMDC and it crossed my mind it would be great for a fashion shoot sometime soon. It was a bit cold for Sarah today I think and Leigh had just come in from a heavy stag session in Lanzarote or somewhere hot and sunny and he was feeling a bit worse for wear! Anyhow we pressed on and and had a fun shoot which should give them an idea of what we’ll be doing on the day. Both Sarah and Leigh seemed pretty relaxed about the whole thing which bodes well for the day. Let’s just hope its a few degrees warmer out in the wilds of Huddersfield at the end of March!

Wakefield Commercial photographer: Hotel Interiors, Huddersfield

My first attempt at shooting interiors today but at least it was on familiar territory and some of you keen eyed viewers may spot that this is one of the locations I use for many of my glamour shoots. Having been over there on many occasions, I have been fortunate enough get to know the helpful staff and it was kind of them to think of me when they needed images for the new website. Yeah, ok! I’m being cagey but that’s because I keep getting asked where I’m doing my shoots and I’m not ready to hand it on to the other photographers just yet! Ha ha! All I will say is I might also have found a new model and no, it’s not Michael :¬)

Baby bump shoot for Sharon

With only two weeks to go before baby no.3 three comes, Sharon booked in for a bump shoot in the nick of time. To be honest, when I saw the size of the bump I half expected that I would be helping deliver Charlie into the world if I got Sharon doing any vigorous posing! However, despite my having her lying on the floor and sitting cross legged, Charlie managed to hang on in there, though Sharon was complaining about twinges as she left so maybe he’s here now :¬) Anyhow, things all went to plan shoot-wise and Sharon was very relaxed and comfortable in my company and it shows in the beautiful images we created. I have to say, I was so taken by Sharon’s bright green eyes I also did one of my ‘noir’ portraits of her at the end of the session, She wasn’t too happy about that, being typically all girl self conscious and “oh! I’m so not photogenic!”, but I’m hoping when she sees the image I had in my head, she may change her mind just a little bit about how photogenic she really is :¬)

If you like the images Sharon and I created and would like something similar, just call the studio on 01924 229800 to arrange a shoot.
