Devonshire Arms wedding: Charlotte & Cristian

I went straight from the pre-wedding meet up with Allan and Becki to Kirkstall Abbey for my second pre-wedding shoot of the day! Charlotte & Cristian will be getting hitched at the Kingdom Hall, Ilkley later this month before heading on to the Devonshire Arms for the reception. I first met Charlotte a couple of years ago when she was bridesmaid at Luke and Danni’s wedding at Norwood Park in Nottinghamshire and I found out during the pre-wedding shoot it will be the same set of brides/bridesmaids as at Danni’s wedding except Charlotte and Danni will exchange roles this time :¬) Cristian is originally from Chile but has lived over here for 16yrs now with his parents but is looking forward to some, if not all the relatives making the long haul to the wedding. I hope the weather is as good on the day as it was today for the pre-wedding shoot at Kirkstall Abbey museum gardens :¬)

Waterton Park Hotel wedding: Becki & Allan

Becki & Allan will be getting hitched later this month at Waterton Park Hotel, Wakefield so today we met up for a pre-wedding chat and shoot. We’d originally decided to meet at Newmillerdam but the warm summer sun had brought the hoards out and Becki & Allan got the last spot in the entire vicinity of the country park and I just couldn’t get in anywhere. So, I came up with plan B which was to leave their car at Newmillerdam and jump into mine and head up to Seckar. The sunshine was intense on the open heathland but we managed a shoot using a tree full of smiley faces as the main location before heading out into a rapeseed field to make the most of the intense yellow flowers which are just starting to go over. Watch out for Allan’s spectacular arrival at Waterton Park ;¬)

wedding photographer at Brooklands: Christian & Jody

Yesterday’s fine weather continued for Christian and Jody’s wedding at St Thomas’ Church, Barnsley and got better and better as the day wore on. The reception was held at Brooklands Hotel (Holiday Inn) at Dodworth where we were able to make the best of the summer sunshine for the photographs. Jody decided not to have any prep shots which meant we had much more time for the groom and guests shots which I’m usually shooting under pressure and with no time to spare. As the guests made their way into church, Jody arrived with her father in a stunning 1939 Rolls Royce which was absolutely pristine and looked superb outside the church. Following the ceremony and church photos, Christian and Jody went off to Brooklands at Dodworth in this fabulous vehicle while I followed on in my rather ordinary motor! Although the grounds at Brooklands are not going to win any awards, we managed to get some fabulous images by shooting low angles with a longer focal length which compresses the scene really effectively. Following the wedding breakfast, we ventured back out into beautiful golden evening light for a few more shots before heading in for the cake cutting and first dance. A great day all round.

Wedding photography at the 3 Acres: Carol & David

Wedding photography at the 3 Acres, Shelley.

Bright sunshine, blue skies, family and close friends; what a superb day for Carol and David to tie the knot! Their wedding took place at the 3 Acres pub, a locally renowned gastro pub set high on the hills between Shelley and Emley amid open pastures, stunning views and, of course, with the iconic landmark of Emley Moor transmitter in the near distance. The guests arrived from 3:30pm for a 4 o’clock wedding in a small room at the back of the hotel where after the ceremony the canopes were served before heading out into the summer sunshine for the photographs. We had a fun, relaxed photo shoot out on the grass and I made sure we got Emley Moor transmitter in a few of the shots before switching angles to take in some of the stunning views.  A relaxed and friendly intimate wedding that was a fun to shoot and here are a few images to prove it ;¬)

NEW College prospectus photography part 2

Back at NEW college today for part two of the 2014 school prospectus photography commission and the heat was just as great today meaning another punishing schedule! It really is none stop going from class to class without any chance of a break – even during the class breaks we have stuff to shoot. Great fun however and the kids were more co-operative today which does help a great deal. One of the main problems is coming up with fresh ideas for each of the classes, I mean, psychology for instance: how to come up with a different image without just using a book! Then again, we had subjects like chemistry with lab coats, test tubes and chemicals which makes life a breeze :¬) It’s a challenging but good fun shoot which I look forward to each year. Here’s a few from today’s shoot.

NEW College prospectus photography

Well, the week’s holiday now seems an age ago and it’s back to work with a vengeance! Today I was at NEW College, Pontefract for the school  prospectus photography for the 2014 publication. I have done the NEW College prospectus for the last few years and although it’s enjoyable, it is hard work especially in the heat we had today! As usual, we headed round the school dropping in on classes to capture each of the many different subjects the college has to offer, although due to exams and post exams, we didn’t complete our full schedule for the day which means part 2 on Thursday will be a marathon session!
