Wakefield Family Portrait Photographer: Sophie & Jess

Wakefield family portrait photographer: It’s ages since I saw Stuart, Kate and Sophie – in fact,  Kate was still pregnant when I last saw her and now new arrival Jess is 18 months old! They’ve been meaning to come over for a shoot for a while now and Stuart finally made big effort to sort out a Saturday when I was free for a shoot and today was the day. We decided to shoot on the white infinity curve to match with a shoot we did a couple of years ago when Sophie was about the age that Jess is now and so I set up the high key lighting and off we went. Once the lights are set up for the high key session it’s just a matter of letting the kids off the leash and snapping away. We got some great images both individuals and of the girls together and ended up with a few shots of the whole family. Some great Christmas present here I think :¬)

Wakefield wedding photographer: Bill & Jayne

Wakefield wedding photographer at Dimplewell Lodge: Bill & Jayne had booked a holiday to Tenerife when they suddenly decided to make it their honeymoon! Having chosen the Dimplewell Lodge, Ossett as the venue for their wedding they then focussed everything into preparing for the big day. I’d previously met Bill and Jayne when I did the wedding photography for Jayne’s son David at Nostell Priory a year or so ago and so they kindly thought of me for the wedding photographer for their big day. The Dimplewell was a new venue for me and as we scraped by with the weather narrowly avoiding a rainy afternoon, things went off well. The whole day was a relaxed and fun affair with Buster, the dog, playing a big role in delivering the wedding rings down the aisle. The rain held off while we headed outside for the photos and despite the soggy ground we managed to get into the gardens and capture some fun shots.

Wakefield commercial photographer: Roan Building Systems

I got a call from Roan Building Systems to go along to their offices on Monkton Industrial Estate to shoot some headshots of the staff for the website and print. The brief was to shoot fairly classic business portraits against a clean background and then, on the day, we decided to shoot some team shots outdoors. I used a plain wall in the conference room and used a couple of SB800 flashes  for lighting with the key light through a softbox off to camera left. Although the team were sat in front of a large window, the light coming through wasn’t enough to get into the shadow side of the face so I used a third speedlight to add a bit of soft fill. After the individual shots,  we went outside for the team shoot so that we could use the company van for the branding.

A quick shoot that has landed the team some great images for the website but maybe not for Facebook :¬)

Wakefield commercial photographer: Redrow Homes

Active PR, a marketing agency working for Redrow, commissioned me to shoot some press images of Redrow Homes handing over a cheque to the Forget-Me-Not Children’s charity. A couple of weeks previously, Redrow staff held a tea party on Yorkshire Day with all proceeds going to the charity. I was asked to go along and shoot some images of the tea party, but unfortunately I was on holiday on the day and couldn’t attend. However, Active PR kindly got me to shoot the handing over of the cheque instead.

West Yorkshire Commercial photographer: The choir

I got a last minute call from the choirmaster at Wakefield Cathedral to see if I would be able to help them out with some shots of the choir for the cathedral and for any individuals that might want a photograph. The brief was to go along at Sunday teatime, just after evensong, and get a shot of the whole choir, then the male choir with the boys and then same again but with the girls before shooting individual shots. As this was the first meeting back after the summer break, all the choir was there together which is apparently unusual, hence they were keen to get some shots.. So, I happened to be free at the appropriate time and had the Bowens travel pack charged up and so I went along to shoot something different to my usual work. I used too 500w monoblocs for the lighting to make sure I wasn’t going to lose anyone in the shadows and to spread the light further, I used a couple of 24″ silver reflector brollies to punch the light out.

After the big groups, I set up in the choir stalls and did some really nice individual portraits but I’ve been asked not to post those so you’ll just have to take my word for it that they were very good :¬) I dragged the shutter to around 1/8 to bring in the ambience of the candle light and the patina of the remaining old wooden pews (only the choir stalls remain original, all other pews have been sold off!). An enjoyable end to the afternoon and I know they are pleased with the images which is great. Apparently the last ‘professional’ photographer 2 years ago tried to shoot the whole choir in the choir stalls using only a single speedlight on top of his camera and ended up supplying a series of very dark images! If you need some great images for your club, choir, society or business, don’t hesitate to give me a call on 01924 229800

Yorkshire glamour & boudoir photographer: Magdalena

Magdalena dropped by the studio for a glamour and boudoir shoot today to get some images as a present for her boyfriend  and also to build a portfolio for her hobbyist modelling career. Although she’s only been photographed by her sister before this shoot, Magdalena was very comfortable in front of the camera and I think it shows in the images. She had some great ideas for her photos and had brought along his boxing gloves for the shoot which look stunning as black and white images. The photos are mostly for him so you only get to see a small selection here which Magdalena has kindly allowed me to post.
