Wakefield portrait photographer: Nicola, Dominic and the twins!

Nicola and Dominic were last in the studio in June this year when we photographed Nicola’s bump. Today they were back with the new arrivals – twin girls called Isabella and Francesca. On arrival, everything was peaceful and I think we all thought it was going to be a synch but the girls had other ideas! As soon as the shoot got underway, there were tears and tantrums a plenty and that was just from me! Eventually after a good feed and the insertion of a dummy, the girls calmed down but we struggled to get a shot without the comforters in their mouths – each time we unplugged one, that was the queue for tears. Once one of twins got upset, it was like a chain reaction! Oh well! We persevered and in the end we got a few shots but the use of props such as the old suitcases, the pumpkin outfits and fancy hats all went by the wayside.

Yorkshire commercial photographer: Wakefield Cathedral Choir

Wakefield commercial photographer

Wakefield Cathedral Choir have again booked me as their Wakefield commercial photographer to photograph the reforming of the choir after the summer break. Each September, the whole choir meets up for rehearsals and a party and it’s one of the few times when all the choir is at rehearsals at once i.e. male section and both girl’s and boy’s sections. So, after the evensong concludes and before the choir heads off to party, we take the opportunity to shoot the choir as a whole and then variations of the choir and finally, individual portraits for those who want them. This year was slightly different as I was not able to do the individual portraits in the choir stalls as there is a good deal of renovation work taking place and this area was boarded off. However, it was easy enough to find a backdrop that gave a nice sense of the cathedral for the portraits and they have a nice warm quality to them created by shooting with the ambient light being predominantly sodium vapour and tungsten lighting.  As ever, I used a couple of 500w monoblocs to light the larger groups and a simple two point lighting set up for the individuals to create depth and detail to the photos. Here are just a few images to give a flavour of what we created and I am sure the parents will be delighted with the results.

To book me for your business portraits either on location or in the studio, just call me on 01924 229800 to discuss your requirements.

Wakefield wedding photographer shoots York wedding: Gaynor & Bryan

Although I’m predominantly a Wakefield wedding photographer covering weddings in West Yorkshire, I do get to travel around quite a bit and today I was with Gaynor and Bryan as their York wedding photographer. Gaynor is a Wakefield girl but Bryan is York born and bred and York is a favourite haunt of both of them so, what better place to get married than York registry office, followed by a wedding breakfast at Ask Italian and finally, rounding off the day’s celebration with a river cruise along the Ouse?

We began with the bridal preps at the York Novotel with the rain lashing down and sweeping across the patio outside the window but the forecast said it would clear by noon so we crossed our fingers and carried on with the detail shots. By the time we came to do the bridal portraits, it had eased off enough for us to get outside for a few quick shots before heading off to meet up with Bryan and the boys at the registry office. By this time the rain had stopped and we were able to work outside in the street to get some fine images of the suited chaps before Gaynor arrived with her dad in a friend’s fabulous Rolls Royce. The rain stayed away throughout the ceremony and all the time we walked down through York to get to the reception – we even had sunshine breaking through and yet, within 5 minutes of them going into the restaurant, the heavens opened with torrential rain driving tourists from the streets!

By early evening the rain had cleared and the low sunshine had broken through as we hit the museum gardens for another photo session prior to boarding the cruise boat. Black thunder skies and mellow sunshine gave us some amazing light to play with and we soon had another great set in the bag. Eventually we boarded the boat for a river cruise along the Ouse with a barbecue and band to entertain us until first dance just after sunset at around 8.30pm after which is was party time until 11:00pm and the end of a great day. These photos only represent a few of the many we got :¬)

Wakefield commercial photographer: Beaumont Legal headshots

Today I was back at Beaumont Legal as their go to Wakefield commercial photographer, this time creating headshots for around 30 new starters. I simply used an off white wall and hit it with enough light to make it go completely white and then used a 500w Profoto B1 in a shoot through brolly to light the subject. This is around the 5th or 6th time I’ve been to Beaumont Legal to create headshots for the website as they appreciate the quality and consistency that can be achieved when using a professional photographer.

PR photographer Wakefield: Ultima Kitchens/Yorkshire Bank

Gloucestershire based PR firm, The Big Partnership, came across my website while looking for a PR photographer Wakefield. They were looking for a photographer to take a few shots on behalf of Yorkshire Bank head office and locally based Ultima Kitchens. The bank is helping Ultima move to huge, purpose built new premises at Sherburn-in-Elmet and they required a few PR shots for the press. I usually have a few ideas in my head before I get to the site of the shoot and this was no exception. However, when I arrived at the new Ultima site it was, quite literally, a brand new building with no content or branding! This gave me a whole new set of problems but as a professional, all I can do is make the best of the situation. I took a few shots inside the factory where some of the manufacturing machinery had been installed and then some at the front of the building making sure to get the apex of the roof in the shot as the Ultima graphics team have designed and made the signs to fit the building. They decided they would be able to insert some branding into the images before going to press!

Wakefield Commercial photographer: Beaumont LegalWakefield commercial photographer

Back on site at Beaumont Legal today as their go to Wakefield commercial photographer, this time to create some PR shots of the new boy on the block. These shots took just a few minutes to compose and execute but resulted in a good selection and different styles that can be used in internal print and by the media. It surprises me still that I see poor quality images taken in house under poor lighting conditions in order to cut costs when, in real terms, it can be far less inexpensive than one might imagine to get some professional shots taken on location. Image is everything and in the end, good images will speak for themselves and instill confidence in your customers and can result in increased business. Beaumont Legal really understand this concept and are always pleased with the results. Here I did a few shots outside the head office, both with and without branding and then finished off with an indoor portrait and a typical stock shot taken at the desk. As a professional photographer, I see my job not just about taking a great photograph, but about  connecting with the subject and bringing out their personality that will make prospective customers warm to that person.
