Yorkshire fashion photographer: Gemma’s portfolio boost

Gemma found my website while looking for a Yorkshire fashion photographer as she’s been looking to update her portfolio for a while. After a quick phone call to arrange a session, she was over in the studio for the shoot. We did a good selection of outfits from casual through to lingerie but I did like this set from inside the dinning room section of the studio. Lots of natural light coming in through the huge glass doors and just given a lovely boost from a Profoto B1 in a shoot through brolly.

If you are a retailer or model looking for a reliable and experienced Yorkshire fashion photographer, just call the studio on 01924 229800

Yorkshire fashion photographer: Concept fashion shoot

Yorkshire fashion photrographer

I love my job as a Yorkshire fashion photographer; I get to work with some great creatives and today was no exception. I was shooting a concept fashion set for local designer, Debbie Bosco, which included a dress made entirely from party ribbons, a dress made from a few thin leather straps, a fabulous coat and a dress made for dyed voile! I decided to shoot much of the shots on a neutral grey background, (it’s a white background actually, I just light it to 20% grey) as this tends too suit most fashion styles and I can easily colour shift it in post. I also shot a some low key stuff on a black background and used a few gels for different looks and effects. My friend Willima Barrington-Binns was there too with his 100mp Phase 1 which I just had to have a go with! However, all these images are taken on my trusty Nikon D810 which is outstanding in the studio. All the liughting was done with just three Profoto B1 heads into softboxes, strip boxes, grids or a giant parabolic umbrella.

Wildlife photography in Spain: Bonelli’s and golden eagles

Some of you will know that I got interested in photography through my love for wildlife and birds and I still go off with the big telephoto lens whenever I can to indulge my passion for wildlife photography. I’ve just returned from a nature photography trip to Spain where I have been photographing golden eagle, Bonelli’s eagle and great bustard. These are all iconic species found in Spain and it was an incredible experience, as ever, to be close to such magnificent birds. There’s a much more detailed post over on my nature photography website, Wildscenes, where you will find many more photographs from the trip.

Thorpe Park Hotel wedding photographer | wedding photography at Thorpe Park Hotel | Wakefield wedding photographer

Thorpe Park Hotel wedding photographer: Zoe & Alan

Zoe and Alan booked me as their Thorpe Park Hotel wedding photographer, a large hotel at Garforth in Leeds. Today, St George’s Day, was the big day for Zoe & Alan and the weather held up well. As usual, we began the day with some bridal prep shots before nipping over to see the groom getting ready, one of the advantages of both being in the same hotel, and then back in time for stepping into the dress. With the groom shots in the bag we set to with  the bridal shots and, despite the limited space, we managed fine. It was a race against the onset of rain as we did the confetti formals after the ceremony but we managed to get everything done and Zoe was a star, staying outside as the temperature dropped rapidly. After the wedding breakfast and an some incredible live singing, we managed to get out for a few shots of the bridesmaids and partners against a great storm sky.

Headshots photographer | corporate portraits | LinkedIn profile shot

headshots and corporate profile images: MJMC Ltd

Last year I photographed the directors at MJMC Ltd for the company website and today I was shooting a few headshots of the newest director, Alan. The images had to be the same as the previous corporate portraits which was easy enough to do; I simply photographed against a white wall but feathered the light to get a 20% grey background and used a single speedlight into a small softbox for the key light. A snooted speedlight from high camera left provides a nice hair light and kicker. A professional profile shot like this is excellent for LinkedIn or other social media and it really pays dividends to have a good quality profile image that your clients can see. To book me for your headshot shoot or corporate images, juts call the studio on 01924 229800.

ink girl scrapyard shoot | location portraits | ink girl on location | fashion shoot | fashion photographer West Yorkshire

ink girl scrapyard shoot with Sophie

I’ve had an idea for an ink girl scrapyard shoot for a while now and having recently found the location, I decided it was time to shoot. I contacted my go to ink girl, Sophie, and asked her if she fancied the shoot and she jumped at the chance for something different for her portfolio. I knew I wanted to shoot on a bright sunny day using the strong spring sunshine as a back light and to use a Profoto B1, gelled with a CTO, as a key light to make the model jump out from the scene and today was perfect. My idea was to have Sophie wearing a vest and wielding a large wrench for an authentic look, but the wrench that Richard, the yard owner, had was very heavy and a struggle for Sophie to lift! What a weed!  Worse still, the shoot was in cut off in it’s prime due to Sophie’s hay fever allergy but we got enough shots to know that this is a great location for a shoot and we will be back in the very near future. My favourite backdrop was the rusty old railway goods carriage which had the most wonderful patina and texture.
