Chris and Claire’s wedding at La Fortezza

Chris and Claire’s wedding was a small, intimate, family affair and took place at Westgate Chapel in Wakefield, followed by a reception at the cosy Italian restaurant at Newmillerdam, La Fortezza. Both of these venues were new to me and the chapel was a super building that I had no idea existed, nestled away amongst the urban surrounds of Westgate station. I have to say I think that Chris is a dead ringer for John Nettles aka Bergerac!

Winter wonderland in the Dales

February 11, 2009

Another commission to shoot some landscapes for the Ramblers’ Association, this time at Brimham Rocks in North Yorkshire, meant getting through some deep snow drifts and icy conditions to reach the viewpoint I was after. Despite a gloomy, snowy start to the day, the sun came through in the afternoon and I made the most of the opportunity and captured this panoramic shot. This is a stone known as the druid’s writing desk.

Bobbi & Leanne in the studio

After a week of cold weather and snow, it was nice to get into a warm studio and shoot some fashion and lingerie images for Bobbi and Leanne. Studio fashion shoots like this are great gifts for teenagers or even just a treat for yourself. Here are a few of my favourite images from the session though I haven’t had time to go through all the shots yet. I’m bound to be posting more over the next day or so.

Cold easterly winds bring some snow!

The predicted snow actually arrived, so despite having a mountain of work to do in the office, I headed out to grab a few snow scenes even though the weather was still bleak, snowy and with grey skies. Occasional patches of sunshine broke through but I never managed anything in the weak winter sunlight. Instead, I settled for this Christmas card scene of Wragby church at Nostell under a blanket of snow. I used my latest toy, a 24mm f/2.8 PC-E lens (tilt and shift lens) to correct all the verticals. This is a specialist lens and not for the feint-hearted as it is very manual in it’s operation. This is a manual exposure, tone-mapped and adjusted with luminosity masks in the post processing.

Natalie in the studio

Natalie came down to the studio today for some headshots ahead of her casting audition in London next week. The aim was to get several different looks and backgrounds in the 90mins we had so I used some simple cross lighting and came up with these images.

Scott & Amy’s wedding, Chevin Lodge Hotel, Otley

January 24, 2009

My first wedding at the Chevin Lodge Hotel in Otley and a great venue for me as a photographer. Amy and Scott were married at the Kingdom Hall in Ilkley, followed by the reception at the Chevin Park Hotel. The weather was fine, if a little cold, but we managed both indoor and outdoor shots that enabled me to make use of the soft winter sunlight as well as my favourite techniques with creative flash indoors. Here are a few of my favourite images from the day.
