Andrew & Louise pre wedding shoot at Newmillerdam

I met up with Andrew and Louise at Newmillerdam for a pre wedding photo session this morning in the continuing glorious sunshine. Although their wedding is not until July, this is the last time they’ll both be up here before the wedding – they’re based in Surrey – so this was an ideal opportunity. Newmillerdam is now very well into leaf and the usual spots I use were well overgrown with nettles and brambles but we still managed a great session and in under 20 minutes captured some natural shots. Both Andrew and Louise were very relaxed and comfortable with the camera, so I’m really looking forward to their big day at Woolley Hall (one of my favourite venues!). By July time, the rhodedendrons should all be in full bloom at Woolley providing us with a gloriously colourful backdrop.

Off to get me shorts on now and relax after a hard weekend (and before going out for the evening to do some more birdy pics! I just can’t put the camera down, ha ha!).

Katherine & Chris’ wedding at Hazlewood Castle

I used to visit Hazelwood Castle as an itinerant nature photographer when it was a monastary run by the Carmelite monks and the grounds were open to the public, so I’ve been looking forward to shooting at Hazelwood Castle for a while now. I wasn’t disappointed!

Katherine and Chris chose this magnificent venue for their wedding and the weather was scorching to boot. There were many photo opportunities to be had around the grounds and, even had it been a real wet weather day, we’d have found many places to shoot indoors.

A break in Dumfrieshire

Took the opportunity of a wedding free bank holiday to head off in the motorhome for a few days nature photography. We headed to Dumfrieshire, in particular, the area around Portpatrick where I had a brief winter weekend break a few years back. Portpatrick in spring is a very different place for the wildlife and landscape photographer with lots of colour, animals, birds, insects and sweeping vistas to go at. It was awesome to be able to photograph wild peregrines before breakfast and then spend the day doing some fine art nature images such as the ferns and bluebells in the dark Scottish woodlands. Many photographers would probably walk past the ferns considering them not too photogenic, but for me they’re just the opposite. Photographed on a dull day with a heavy overcast sky, the verdant greens and the deep rugged texture of the leaves just jump out of the image.

Martine makes a return visit to the studio

Martine came to the studio today to get a few more images for her portfolio. The keen eyed amongst you will recognise Martine from various pages around the website where she features in the banner of the home page and contact page at least! It’s amazing where time goes – the original images were done at least three years ago at the old studio in Rutland Mills, now known as the swanky Waterfront! We had a couple of  hours in the afternoon and shot a variety of portraits, fashion and some lingerie.

Vickie and Tim at Waterton Park, Wakefield

I first met Tim & Vickie last year when Vickie was a bridesmaid at her sister Jennie’s wedding at Monk Fryston Hall and today it was their turn in the spotlight. The ceremony took place at St John The Baptist Church in Normanton followed by a reception at Waterton Park Hotel. The weather couldn’t have been more different though, glorious warm autumn sunshine last November and today cool, windy conditions and heavy spring rain! However, the clouds parted enough during the afternoon to allow us to get out into the grounds of Waterton Park for a few shots at least. A special welcome to all Tim’s Finnish side of the family who came over –  as we all know, Finland is where the world’s best death metal bands hail from! Awesome! Here are a few from the day.

Kingfishers and fox cubs.

It’s a really busy time at the moment as I try and squeeze in a bit of wildlife photography amongst the wedding albums, wedding photography and the portraits –  I should be out way more than I am.  Here’s a couple of images from today when I managed to do kingfisher and fox cubs.  A big thanks to my pal Frederic Desmette for inviting me along. Check out his website at www.fredericdesmette.com and if you’re in Buckinghamshire, be sure to visit his restaurant  – La Chouette at Dinton! Tell him I sent you ;¬)

As usual, back to the weddings this coming weekend and the weather is really not looking good for it. Eeep!

Oh! And just for good measure, here’s a mute swan that I also did today. Made a change going back to my roots – wildlife is where all my photography started!
