Kate and Stuart bring Sophie to the studio

Having given up on trying to set up a shot and then jump into frame before the self timer had gone off, Stuart decided to bring Kate and baby Sophie along to the studio today to get some pictures of them as a family. At 9 months old it was a prefect time to put Sophie in front of the lens as she’s just learned to sit up but can’t yet crawl off which makes my job much easier :¬) We managed to snag loads of family shots plus some real cute baby portraits in just under an hour. Here’s a few that I’ve just processed up while my family are watching the awful X-Factor (plants “grumpy old man” hat firmly on head!) .

Stuck for what to get the parents for Christmas? There’s still time to get your family portrait done in time and believe me, a good shot of the grand kids will really make their day! Call now on 01924 229800 to book your family shoot.

Chasing the autumn colours

I took a break from wedding albums, editing portraits and framing prints today to make the most of the autumn sunshine and the school half term!  I packed a small selection of lenses and headed off with the family to Bolton Abbey to see what the autumn colours were like and to get away from staring at the computer screen! I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed – the beech trees were spectacular. Here are a few images from today but, with a busy week of shoots and photographic lectures ahead, it’s back to the grindstone tomorrow :¬\

Faye & Matt’s wedding – Holdsworth House, Halifax

As I drove to Halifax to shoot Matt & Faye’s wedding at Holdsworth House Hotel, I couldn’t help thinking my unbelievable run of dry wedding weather luck had deserted me! Thick fog and continuous heavy drizzle made the journey to halifax slow and tedious and I figured if I took the bride & groom outside with brollies, I’d probably loose them in the fog! As it happened, I needn’t have worried because after shooting only a couple of formal group shots indoors after the service, the skies cleared and the sun shone brightly allowing us to move outside and utilise the superb grounds of this charming Jacobean venue.  To see more images from Holdsworth House click here and to learn more about my wedding packages click here

Katie’s wedding dress studio shoot

Katie brought her wedding dress over to the studio this evening to do a shoot and to get some more use out of the dress – it cost a great deal of money so why only wear it once?! Studio shoots are a great way of getting some stunning images of the bride in the wedding dress and they can also be done before the wedding day, as part of the make-up trial or a bridal boudoir shoot, as well as after the big day. There’s no risk in the studio of dirtying the dress unlike the trash the dress shoots we do when you may well find yourself floating in an icy plunge pool in the Dales!! My friend and top hair & make-up artisit Lyndsey Ward was on hand to keep katie looking immaculate!

If you fancy getting some extra wear out of your wedding dress AND getting some killer images, why not call us on 01924 229800 or go to the contact page for details. You don’t have to have had your wedding shot be me to do a wedding dress studio shoot. And don’t forget, this’d be a great way to celebrate your prom dress too!

Sam in the studio

Model Sam Watson came over to the studio today for a  portfolio shoot which included some fashion and some glamour. Sam is trying to become a model and, although she’s been photographed by a few amateur photographers, this was her first time in a professional studio. I think she was impressed by the quality and variety of the images we shot in a short space of time and she certainly can see the value in going to a professional photographer to have a portfolio created. I don’t think this will be the last we see of  Sam in the studio! If you fancy a professional portfolio shoot in whatever style you choose, just go to the contact pages and send an email through or pick up the phone and call 01924 229800.

Charlene in the studio

The first formal portrait shoot that I’ve done for a while but I enjoyed creating some images of Charlene in her RAF uniform for her mother. However, I’d forgotten that I’d promised my studio to an artist friend for her life-drawing weekend when Charlene rang and asked if she could call in this weekend while she is at home on leave, so it was a case of squeezing Charlene in during the artists’ lunch break. This meant that once we’d got rid of the large naked lady and the artists, we only had a small corner in which to shoot around all the easles and chairs, but sometimes simplicity is a good thing and so I just used a white wall, some window light and a very large softbox to create some clean three-quarter length portraits before taping up some black velvet and going for a dark background with the addition of a couple of CTB gelled speedlights as kickers.
