La Chouette Restaurant, Buckinghamshire

Today I was in Dinton, near Aylesbury, to photograph chef and restauranteur Frederic Desmette on location at his Belgian restaurant tucked away in the rural backwaters of Buckinghamshire. The images are for use on the newly launched website for La Chouette, a cosy little restaurant specialising in gastronomic delights from Frederic’s native country of Belgium. Featured in many magazines and reviews, the restaurant has won high acclaim and is famous for both its cuisine and the idiosyncrasies of Frederic who undertakes the role of host, barman and chef! If you’re ever down that way, be sure to call ahead to reserve a table – visit the website for more information.

Louie, Poppy and Ralph in the studio

Poppy, her little brother Ralph and cousin Louie arrived in the studio after school today for a quick session on the white infinity curve. Things went swimmingly and within a short space of time we had plenty of images to show mum, Zowie, on the screen. There’s still time for some studio (or location) shots of the kids in time for Christmas so don’t be afraid to dial 01924 229800 and book your slot or ask any questions.  Here are one or two shots from a very brief edit, more may follow, but another busy day tomorrow shooting for a restaurant!

Batley Girls’ High School

I began what turned out to be another very busy day’s schedule with an early start at Batley Girls’ High School where I’d been invited to address a group of commerce students about the business of photography. The group had looked at local photographers and, inspired by the blog, had chosen me to be guest speaker.  We discussed marketing, product placement, costs, business strategies working pro bono and much more. While it may have inspired the girls, it depressed me as it dawned on me just how much I need to raise my game on the business side of my career!

Wayne & Natalie maternity shoot

After seeing Rachel’s baby bump shoot on the blog last month, Wayne booked in for a suprise maternity shoot for his wife Natalie who is expecting their first child on New Year’s Eve. He broke the news to her last week and today they drove all the way up from Stoke in the drizzle and mist to my studio at Durkar. Kimberley, my make-up artist, was on hand to pamper Natalie prior to the shoot and then we were straight into it. I shot them as a couple as well as just portraits of Natalie who looked radiant under the studio lights. I wish them well with the birth on NYE while the rest of us are revelling and I also wish them good luck for their new life in Australia from next June – I hope they’ve a spare room for me in their new house on the Gold Coast!

Here are a few from the shoot and if you’re thinking of a baby bump shoot, just call the studio on 01924 229800 to book in or discuss or visit the baby bump pages on the website.

Harry & Bertie at Newmillerdam

I had a commission to shoot Harry and Bertie, a couple of King Charles spaniels, to create a framed image for a birthday present. I decided to shoot them in the woods at Newmillerdam in the early morning light and my idea was to have them sitting amongst the trees, backlit by the rising sun. Their idea was entirely different :¬) Being a very experience wildlife photographer helped and also meant I had the right gear for the job. Here I used a 300mm f/2.8 lens to capture them as they paused for breath for just a split second.

If you’d like your dog photographed on location or in the studio, just give me a call on 01924 229800.

Sam and the gang in the studio.

Sam, John, James and little Archie came over to the studio today for a family shoot in time for Christmas which gave me a break from preparing for the Woolley Hall wedding fayre. Archie was as good as gold but was a real explorer and covered every inch of the studio except the bit in the middle where the lights were! Still, I love a challenge and often the best shots come from sessions like this. Here’s a few I like.
