Another cracking day for a wedding and a bit of a change from the overcast cool weather of Julie & Jonathan’s pre-wedding shoot! Julie’s fit of the giggles during the wedding ceremony set the tone for the day and both Johnno and Julie were great to photograph making it very easy for me to get a wide variety of shots right up until the evening party! Sometimes the photos just come thick and fast and this was one of those days; here’s a few to be going on with that will hopefully give a flavour of the day’s events. Have a great time in Scotland guys, hope the midges don’t make too much of a meal of you :¬o

Granddad’s 80th surprise!

Leanne contacted me a few weeks ago to arrange a family portrait shoot as a surprise for her Granddad’s 80th and so today there was a gathering of cousins from the Hunt & Crowther clan to do just that. We shot some fun, but formal stuff of the group that would appeal to Granddad’s tastes before shooting a some casual shots of the two sets of cousins. Framed family portraits like this make absolutely super gifts for mums, dads and grandparents as they are intimate, stylish and really personal and will give lasting pleasure as a large framed print or canvas wrap. Abi’s portfolio shoot in the studio

Abi dropped by the studio for a professional portfolio shoot today. She’s had a couple of shoots previously with amateur photographers but after not being happy with the results, she decided to take the plunge and go with a pro! Digital photography has made photography available to the masses and there’s lots of ‘guys with cameras’ that will happy to take a few images of you, but in the end, average shots, no matter how they’re processed on the computer, are still average shots! The advantage of shooting with a pro, is that images are correct at the taking stage! I’ve shot with film cameras as well as digital and I have experience in lighting, composition and even posing, so you will definately come away some some awesome images for your portfolio. All these shots of Abi are straight out of the camera with little post processing other than saturation and vignettes added. Abi had a pro make-up artist work on her before she came to the studio and the result of that is obvious too. Melissa cruises on down to the studio

Melissa is just about to head back for another stint on board the cruise ships, spending the next few months in and around the Caribbean where she works as a beautician in the ship’s spa centre. Before going back this time, however, Melissa decided to drop by VERVEstudio for a portfolio shoot. The shoot was a blast and working our way around the studio, we came up with lots of different styles in the various parts of the building. Here are a few of my favourites. Sue & Paul at Holmfield Arms, Wakefield

Phew! Talk about a hot and humid day for a wedding! I think we were all feeling the heat by the time everyone went in for the wedding breakfast but I think we all enjoyed the day and had some great photo opportunities. Sue and Paul were married just across the road from the Holmfield Arms at St James’ Church, Thornes and what a superb place for some photographs! My intial thoughts were to use Thornes Park for the main bride and groom images but with such a verdant location at the church, it made sense to do a quick shoot there before moving up to the Holmfield Arms. After shooting the formals up at Holmfield, we had a quick sortie into Thornes Park with the bride and groom just prior to the wedding breakfast and afterwards, we had a short session shooting in the hotel itself just to get some boutique style images. Sue is very much into the Gothic scene but toned everything down for the wedding and, despite hinting she may be doing the first dance to the metalcore sounds of Avenged Sevenfold, they went for a more smoochy song! However, you all know my penchant for all things Gothic, so I suspect I will be getting Sue into the studio after the honeymoon in her boned corsets and knee-length Doc Martins for an out ‘n’ out Goth style shoot. Watch this space!

Andy & Clare at Tankersley Manor Hotel, Barnsley

Well, that hot weather was bound to disappear eventually and I suspected it would be at Andy & Clare’s wedding: every time I have met these two its been raining! However, the wet weather couldn’t dampen the spirit of the couple and we enjoyed a great day and eventually got outside in the early evening as the rain cleared. Andy and Clare were married at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Huddersfield before being driven to Tankersley Manor by their friend Fraser, who just happened to own a 4.5ltr Ford Mustang GT. The heavens opened as we arrived at Tankersley for the reception so we set about group shots in the barn hoping for a break in the weather but, alas! It was not to be. However, we made the best of the situation hopping from doorway to doorway but after the wedding breakfast the rain relented and there was even a hint of late evening sun, so we managed a further quick photo session before the first dance.
