James’ portfolio shoot

A bit of a change in the studio today shooting a male portfolio. Lots of girls come over to get their portfolios done but very few guys drop by, probably due to embarassment, but James got over the nerves hurdle and dropped by for a shoot. James had seen some of my work that I’ve done for a few of the girls he knows socially (everyone knows everyone in Wakefield!) and he decided he’d like to have a shoot done for keepsake. Like all males of his age he has very few, if any, photos of himself but we put that to rights in grand style today! As a fireman, James is required to keep himself physically fit for his work but I suspect he also paid a visit to the gym earlier this week as his phsyique is very much like my own :¬\

Photographing males is a whole different ball game to females; with girls the light source needs to be huge and very close to the subject to achieve a soft, wrap-around lighting that softens the feel of the image and enhances beauty. With James, however, I went for much harsher directional lighting to increase contrast and define the contours of the body. The result is a set of fine images for James’ portfolio. And yes girls, we are selling posters! ;¬)

Natalie, John & Jack family shoot

Well, the Baxbys were back in the studio today with new addition to the family – Jack. I photographed Natalie and John’s wedding at Healds Hall last April and then earlier this year we did a baby bump shoot and today I met the little man in person. After a very tired start followed by a grumpy spell and then a stomach full of ‘gold top’ and a nappy change, things went really well 🙂 Here are a few images from today minus Macie the rottweiler who wouldn’t perform the shot we had in mind as she was too scared of Jack!

Xavia’s birthday portfolio shoot

Xavia arrived in the studio this morning for her portfolio shoot that her mum & dad had booked as a suprise for her 14th birthday. She brought lots of outfits for us to use and we shot a selection of fashion and beauty shots on various backgrounds in the two hours. When you meet Xavia you can’t help but notice her eyes – have a look at the pictures to see what I mean :¬) Lots of images to go at from the shoot but I’m so far behind in editing after my recent two week hols that I need to catch up on a few weddings!

Laura & Jason at The Cedar Court, Bradford

Following on from the recent pre-wedding shoot, I met up with Laura & Jason for their wedding at Cedar Court, Bradford on what looked like a grim day weather wise but it turned out to be rather fine by the afternoon. However, the weather was the least of everyone’s worries as the bride had gone done with a sickness bug the night before the wedding and was not well at all by the time we arrived for the bridal prep photos! Nonetheless, with great fortitude and a lot of Gaviscon, Laura battled on through the day incredibly well and we got some really great images. It would have been nice to have done some early evening shots after the wedding breakfast but in the end, the illness got the better of her and we didn’t manage it but we did get far more images than I thought we were going to get when we first met Laura!

This was my first shoot at Cedar Court and I’d scouted it yesterday and found some great little locations to use, but the photos were hampered somewhat by three weddings going on simultaneously and we were herded around from place to place and unable to use most of what I had planned. Fortunately though, our wedding was in the Rowan suite which had a fabulous glass sun terrace and roof top garden adjoing the suite allowing us to finish the bride & groom shots in peace! Good venue, bad organisation!

If you’d like to book me for your Cedar Court wedding or any other venue call 01924 229800 or visit the website for details of my wedding packages.

Laura & Jason pre-wedding shoot

Met up with Laura and Jason at the end of a very busy weekend of weddings and pre wedding shoots to go through their wedding plans and also have a photoshoot with them. We intended to meet at Pontefract Park as they headed back to Bradford after a visit to York, but unbeknown to me it was Pontefract races so the area was chokka block with folks. A quick detour and we were at Nostell Priory instead and went through the wedding plans before shooting in the grounds of Wragby church.  Laura and Jason were great fun but they are a challenge as there is a huge difference in height between the two. Best get my thinking cap on before their big day at Cedar Court, Bradford next month ;¬)
