Emma and the gang

Hot footing it from this morning’s pre-wedding shoot down to the studio to meet up with Emma and 9 week old Taylor for their family shoot. Emma was in the studio just a few months ago for her baby bump shoot and today, along with Taylor, his dad and sister was here to shoot some family portraits. The aim of the session was to capture some family portraits and we decided that we’d have Taylor back in a few days time to shoot some cute baby portraits and, at just 9 weeks, he should be perfect. Here are a few photos from the session and, as always, to book me for your family photo shoot, just call the studio on 01924 229800 or visit the website for details.

Andrew & Tina pre-wedding shoot

Not as wet as yesterday’s pre-wedding shoot but just as miserable today at Nostell Priory for a meet up with Andy & Tina ahead of their March wedding! Despite the dank cold, we took a short walk and rattled off a few images of the couple before running through the timings of the big day early next month. Andy & Tina are getting married at The Ramada, Bingley which will be a new venue to me so I’m looking forward to that and I think we’ll get some good stuff on the day. The pre-wedding shoots are good fun and a great way for us all to get to know each other before the wedding day so that we get the best out of the time we have to capture some fun and relaxed wedding images.

Ged & Nicole pre-wedding shoot

Despite the wet and miserable weather today, I met up with Ged & Nicole on their way north from Reading to Middlesborough for the last time before their wedding at Grinkle Park in April. Being surfers meant they didn’t mind a bit of cold water down the back of their necks but still, I decided to do the photoshoot before going into the cafe just in case it was difficult to get them back out again ;¬) We met at Brodsworth which is only a few minutes off the A1 so not much out of their way en route north and quite close to where I live. No fancy techniques to today’s shoot, just kept putting the brollies down for a few minutes and clicking away before grabbing a bit of shelter again but we had a laugh and I think its going to be a good shoot on the big day! Looking forward to shooting you guys at Grinkle. See you in April in the warm spring sunshine :¬)

Headshots for Sarah

Today I was asked by local recruitment firm, Bagnall Hopkins, to shoot some headshots of new starter Sarah in a similar style to those already on their website. Rather than bring Sarah down to the studio, I nipped over to thier offices to do a location shoot. I love this type of fast shooting – quickly in, choose location, set up lighting, bring in subject and bang! Image done. For Sarah’s headshots, I decided to use a leather settee in the reception with wooden Venitian blind as a backdrop for interest. I used an old SB28 as key light through a small softbox and, just to lift the background, I gelled up an SB800 for warmth and fired it through a parlour fern to put some added shadow interest on the background, though I wished I’d lifted the flash slightly as its throwing the shadow of the chair arm onto the blind. After a couple of shots like this, I angled the backlight more towards Sarah for some warm backlighting with a wrap around effect.

Leanne updates her portfolio

Gosh! It seems ages since I worked with Leanne but today she was over at the studio for a portfolio update, mainly for some lingerie images but we spent a while shooting some high key and low key fashion and beauty portraits. I think some of the images from this series were my favourites from the shoot. Here are a few to give you an idea of the kind of images we shot. Some are natural light images and some are lit with an old SB28 speedlight and a rickety old shoot through brolly – its not always about the gear, its the way you use it :¬)

To book me for your beauty portraits, just call the studio on 01924 229800 or visit the website for details. Its not as expensive as you might think and you’ll definitely get images to impress!

Lucy gets made into a window display

Lucy dropped by the studio to collect her Valentine’s photo prints and seeing as she was sporting a completely different look to her Valentine’s shoot, it would have been rude not to shoot her again :¬) This time I placed her in the studio window and rattled off a few frames using mostly natural light but boosted by a Bowens studio flash into a strip box and softened the shadows with the awesome California Sunbounce.
