Wakefield headshots photographer: Portrait lighting demo

I think being a headshot photographer is one of the favourite parts of my job, I love the challenge of interacting and connecting with the subject, as well as getting creative with the lighting. Tonight, I was able to demo some of my techniques to Stocksbridge Photographic Society and what was really great was that they supplied a model that had never posed for the camera before. What’s great about this is that I get not only to demo the lighting, but to show how I intereact with the subject. The key to good portariture is communication and making the subject relaxed. It’s the one thing I think most non-portrait photographers struggle with. They tend to take a photo then start looking at it on the back of the camera and ignoring the subject. It’s really important to engage with your subject the whole way through the shoot. Here are a few images I took before letting the Stocksbiridge members loose on her. All the images of Briony are made using a single Nikon speedlight and a reflector! I made these images with the D5 but she has such amazing eyes and hair, I’d really like a rematch using the Pentax 645z :¬)

Wakefield maternity photographer baby bump shoot

Looking for a Wakefield maternity photographer for a baby bump shoot? Then look no further. This is a sample image from a recent baby bump shoot for Gill that we both love;  it’s beautiful lighting and all about shape and curves. This type of low key lighting really does show off the beautiful curves of  a pregnant female and it will look fantastic as wall art. If this is the sort of image you’d like to create during your pregnancy, then just give me a call on 01924 229800.

Pre-wedding shoot: Helen & Tim at Nostell Priory

I met up with Helen and Tim for their pre-wedding shoot at Nostell Priory on what turned out to be a glorious autumn morning, despite the odd light shower passing through. Tim and Helen are getting married at the end of the month at Falcon Manor, Skipton which will be a new venue for me and one I’m looking forward to shooting at. We began the shoot just outside the riding school and worked our way into the rose garden which has really been transformed this year and is still well worth a visit. Nostell is a venue I’ve worked at many as a wedding photographer so I knew it would be a great spot to meet up with the couple and have a fun shoot before hitting the courtyard cafe for lattes and to go through the details of the big day. I can’t wait to meet up at Falcon Manor on 28th October.

Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Viamaster Truck Shoot

I met the Viamaster team through a shoot for Yorkshire Air Ambulance when they were having some of their trucks decked with air ambulance signage to raise funds for the cause. So, when Viamaster in turn were looking to book a Wakefield commercial photographer for a calendar shoot, they were kind enough to approach me. We decided on an early start up on Saddleworth Moor for the shoot and put the truck in various settings in some gorgeous autumn sunlight. Eventually, the clouds rolled in as we headed back to base but we called off at a couple of industrial sites on the way and did some more shots. I then had the idea to shoot the truck on the M62 as we headed back to Viamaster base in Castleford so we followed Adam, the driver, back to base waiting for gaps in the traffic to then pull alongside and get some shots from our vehicle. I think this could have been a winner with the correct background, something like Ferrybridge power station perhaps. Here’s a few from the shoot.

Wakefield commercial photographer: Yorkshire Air Ambulance White Knights

Wakefield commercial photographer: Back at the Yorkshire Air Ambulance base at Nostell today to shoot some promo images of the new White Knights service that is being introduced. The air ambulance is now to carry blood on its rescue missions so that transfusions can be administered at the incident or en route to hospital and this blood is delivered to the air base by a new support team – The White Knights. In what seems to be coming a regular theme to my shoots at the ambulance base, the heavens opened just as we all got out onto the helipad and it absolutely poured it down. In true air ambulance tradition, we battled on and captured just a couple  of shots for the press release before dashing indoors to do some close-ups of the blood kit.

Wakefield studio photographer: Musician shoot John McSeverney

One of my favourite things I like about my job as a Wakefield studio photographer is being able to vreate osme fabulous headfshots for actors and musicians and today, I had a really fun shoot with John McSeverney. John, like me, has given up his day job to follow his dream; for me it was photography, for John its to become a perfoming musician covering events such as weddings and social engagements and, from what i saw of him playing his guitar in the studio, he is very good! We did a variety fo shots that could be used from simple posters to web and social media images. I love the quality of the images from the medioum format Pentax 645z for shoots like this. Here are a few om my favourites from the session.
