David and Elizabeth’s wedding at The Three Acres

It was with great pleasure that I photographed the wedding of David and Elizabeth today as I have known David for many years since joining Wakefield Camera Club in the mid-80s. David has always been a steam train enthusiast and has a real eye for photographing trains while I was always a natural history photographer. How things change! David is still an avid train photographer and, while I still photograph a lot of nature, I am now a commercial photographer specialising in people and product photography on a full time basis. Moreover, I too have been known to photograph the odd train now and again! Today though, was all about the wedding and what a day we had; the sun was so warm and bright, it was like photographing a July wedding! However, the autumn colours of the foliage reminded us it was October even though it felt otherwise. David and Liz were married at the Wakefield Methodist Church, which is where they met each other, and after the photos around the church amd Thornes Park, they headed up to the Three Acres at Emley for the wedding breakfast. Here is a sneak preview of some of the images.

Wedding photography at Barmbyfields Barn: Emily & Ben

Today it was wedding photography at Barmbyfields Barns, a new venue for me and with it the challenge of shooting in Storm Brian! Emily & Ben chose to tie the knot at Barmbyfields Barns, near Pocklington, a series of barns convrted to hold weddings and events set on the very flat, Vale of York. The grounds are always going to challenge the photographer and doubly so with the added impending hurricane force storm that was bearing down on us. Despite the forecast, we managed to avoid rain for the whole day until the wedding party went in for the reception, at which point, the heavens openened and by the time we left later in the evening, it was positively a challenge just to get back to the car! The day went well, however, with the wedding party getting ready at the nearby KP Lodges before heading down to Barmbyfields in the most amazing 8ltr vintage Bentley. We managed to do most of the shots outside but also made use of the indoors as well, just to get some nice shots of the bride and groom alongside the fabulous interior decorations, all supplied by the couple. Not only did Emily and Ben have the most amazing wedding car, but also the most awesome evening buffet which was a feast of pork and game pies along with smoked cheeses – heaven on a plate! Here are a few images from the day…..

Wakefield wedding photographer: Claire & Matthew at Holmfield Arms

Wakefield wedding photographer: Claire and Matthew were married today at St Mary’s Church, Horbury and and then on to the Holmfield Arms for the reception and celebrations. Although the weather was mixed in the morning, we did get a good bright spell just as we arrived back at the Holmfield Arms and were able to get some great autumn colour shots with the car at the edge of Thornes Park.  After ditching the wedding car and completing the groups shots, we headed down into the park with just Claire and Matthew forr more autumn colour shots though the light had dropped considerably by now. However, dull days really intesify colour and today was no exception as we worked our way along the avenue of trees that line one of the park pathways.

family portrait shoot | Wakefield portrait potographer

Hannah and David came over to the studio today for a family portrait shoot with 6 month old Luke whom I’ve seen on social media since his arrival but, until today, not yet met. I know Hannah and David from shooting their wedding a few years ago so it was good to catch up again in the studio and to meet Luke. We did some traditional lifestyle images in the studio shooting on a white sweep but the weather was so awesome, we decided to nip out to Thornes Park and shoot some of Luke in the autumn leaves. As Luke could not quite sit up unaided, we made big piles of leaves just in case of a wobble and it was a fun shoot despite Luke’s best efforts to eat every single leaf he could lay his hands on! I’m really pleased with what we captured both in the studio and in the park. These images are only a really small taster just in case a parent stumbles on to the images- that might just spoil  a Christmas suprise ;¬)

If you’d like a family portrait shoot on location capturing some fabulous natural images, just give me a call on 01924 229800 and if the weather is a bit inclement, there’s always a warm studio to shoot in too.

Redrow at Green Hammerton Primary school | Wakefield commercial photographer

Although I am a Wakefield commercial photographer, my commissions often take me further afield and today I was at Green Hammerton primary school to shoot some press images for Redrow Homes. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had many bookings from Redrow over the past few weeks, usually to shoot press and PR images such as these. The brief today was to cpature some images of Redrow sales executive Jonathan along with a teacher from the school looking through artwork that the children have created. The school has undertaken a series fo nature walks from which the children have been inspired to have a go at creating an interior design for a bedroom. Redrow are going to use the winning design and cretae a bedroom in a showhouse styled on the winning theme. Unfortunately, due to the modern world we live in, the school were unable to allow any of the budding designers to appear in the shots.

Wakefield wedding photographer: engagement shoot Liz and David

It’s only a couple of weeks to David and Liz’s wedding so it was high time we got together to go through the details and have a bit of an engagement shoot, so that’s what we did today. After going through the day’s timings, we headed into Thornes Park for an informal shoot and, despite the light drizzle, we managed to have half an hour or so with the camera. Although both David and Liz claim not to enjoy being photographed, they still managed to come across as fairly relaxed in front of the camera and this shows in the images. They will be tying the knot at the end of October at Wakefield Mthodist Church and then on to the Three Acres at Emley for the reception. Have a look at a few of the images here…
