Corporate shoot: The Danwood Group Ltd

Last week I was commissioned by Lincoln based office supply firm, The Danwood Group, to shoot some headshots and team images of the northern sales teams for some brochure work and today I was on site doing just that. I decided to shoot the team photos outside and incorporate the company logo before moving indoors to shoot individual headshots. Outside the building I hit the guys with a small speedlight from about 20ft to lift the colour and add some punch to the fairly dull light, warming the flash slightly with a 1/4 CTO . I’m always amazed how much light these small flashes will throw and they’re great for jobs like this where I have to work rapidly within limited timescales and don’t have an assistant to rig up the studio flash for me.

Indoors, I used pretty much the same idea which was to include some corporate identity in some of the photos but at the same time vary the images. Lighting indoors in modern offices is always tricky due to the masses of fluorescent lights peppering the ceilings! Our eyes automatically adjust to this lighting and colour correct the scene but the camera really picks up the ghoulish green glow that these lights give off. Ideally, I’d always kill fluorescents and then shoot with flash but when there are lots of other folks working in the office its not always possible, so I gelled the flashes with FLGs and then adjusted the white balance – this just means that now, all light sources are the same colour temperature.  Once balanced, its a case of  popping on a softbox and using a snooted bare flash for accent and snagging the shots.
