Portrait Photography Workshop promo shoot

Now that lockdown restrictions are easing slightly, it’s time to get the workshops running again. I’ve been thinking about running a simple portrait session aimed at showing clients how to create portraits using different lighting styles. I’m probably going to use my friend Zoe for the shoot so I thought I’d have her over to create a few promo imahes. We had exactly 90mins in the studio and came away with quite a few keepers, though we are going to get back together in a few days to shoot some more images.

If you’d like to join me on a workshop, just give me a call or register your interest here

Ashberry Homes PR shoot

One of my regular clients, a marketing agent in Leeds, booked me to shoot a few PR images for Ashberry Homes at their new site in Howden. Ashberry Homes is a subsidiary company of Bellway Homes, whom I’ve done a lot of PR shoots for over the past couple of years, but this was my first shoot for Ashberry Homes and it was to illustrate a story about Ashberry providing football kit for Howden FC.

The brief was to get socially distamced group shots of some of the players with the site manager, plus some staged shots of the players bricklaying. As with all good PR shoots, nothing went to plan; the site was in its very early stages and only the groundworks guys were there levelling up. There were no bricklayers around and not even any bricks! This is where you have to be prepared to think on your feet and come up with something else but still along the same theme. With this in mind, we got one of the big earth movers to park up so that I could pose the team on this with a subtle bit of Ashberyy branding on the flags in the background.

Here’s a sample of the images that I created using a Nikon D5 and 14-24mm lens with the key light coming from a Profoto B1x head with no modifier attached.

Helicopter Heroes – Yorkshire Air Ambulance shoot

Today’s shoot was all about drama and impact! The photographer’s brief was to capture dynamic images of the crew and medics at Yorkshire Air Ambulance. These images are required for the new YAA website and the designers were looking for something more dramatic and eye catching than the usual headshots of staff. To create these location portraits, I used my Pentax 645z medium format camera and Profoto B1x lights to create these images and, of course, additional post processing has been applied to bring out the details in the images.

Actor headshots: Richard Easterbrook

Richard came over from York today for a headshot session in the studio after having looked at my website gallery. For the session I used a white background and then a mid-grey background and out of the two, I think Richard prefered the darker background. I kept the lighting simple and crisp and created images of Richard with and without his glasses and used a couple of difterent outfits. Here’s a couple of images I liked from the session and I know he’s going to have a hard time choosing! If you are an actor, musician or are just looking for high quality headshots, then just give me a call or fill in the contact sheet below.

Sneak Peek – Inked Girl shoot

Shooting in the studio today for one of my regular models with the intention of getting her into an ink magazine. The one we have in mind requires exclusivity of the images before they are publiushed so I can only give a sneek peek using an outtake that we won’t then send on to the mag. This is shot in the house section of the studio rather than the general photo studio which is a larger, emptier space used for fashion and porttraits. If you would like a model portfolio creating along these lines, then just give ne a call or fill in the contact form below.

Headshots for Jordan’s Solicitors

Two days of location portraits for Jordan’s Solicitors this week at both their Wakefield and Dewsbury offices. The brief was simple, create some headshots for each of the staff members using a white background. This is easy enough to do onlocation but does require a bit of working space, something that was in very short supply at the Dewsbury office. However, one of the challenges of being a photographer is to come up with solutions to what appear to be insuperable problems. This meant I ended up shooting in a drafty corridor but it did give me just enough space to get the images done. Space was less of an issue at the Wakefield office in Unity Hall.
