Portfolio Shoots - Your questions answered.
I've never modelled for a professional photographer before, what do I do?!
Worry not! As a professional photographer, John will guide you through the shoot, suggest poses and show you the images as we go making sure you get the feedabck you need to help you. Because John is an experienced professional, his technical knowledge is second nature so he can give all his attention to you! When you arrive at the studio we will have a quick chat about the sort of images you are after and have a look at some previously shot images to give you ideas. The shoot will last around 2hrs-3hrs, so we've plenty of time explore lots of ideas and if you have seen any specific images you'd like to copy, bring them along and we can shoot similar things. Of course, I am always coming up with new ideas so feel free to go with the flow and let me take the lead.
I think I will be nervous!
Everyone is at the start of the shoot! However, the sessions are laid back and fun and I guarantee you will relax, but you will get the most out of the shoot if you come along and give it your best shot. There is only one thing you can't do in front of John and that is embarass yourself! I can almost guarantee that as the shoot progresses your nerves will just vanish! Feel free to bring some of your favourite music along too, this will help you get over your nerves.
What can I expect during the shoot?
You will be the centre of attention and everything will be focussed on you. However, I work with big telephoto lenses because they give me the best perspective and that 'magazine style' quality to the images, but what this also means is that I am working from much greater distances than you might expect, so I am never up close and personal or invading your presonal space unless we are trying to achieve a specific image. You can be assured that my personal integrity abd professional manner will put you at ease at all times.
I feel awkward in front of a camera, will I look good?
Absolutely! We make sure the session is friendly and relaxed, guiding you through poses and outfit changes. Most poeple are nervous to begin with, but after a very short while, you'll ease into it and be really enjoying the shoot. Part of the skill of a professional photographer is getting the best out of the client and that is achieved easily by John's relaxed and laid back nature. And don't forget, all your completed images are professionally and personally hand finished by John so we guarantee you'll look a million dollars in the final image.
Are there any age restrictions?
No! I've shot people from teens upwards but if you are under 18 I do insist on a parent or guardian being present at the shoot. Unfortunately, this is for my safeguard not yours! Additionally, if you are under 18 we can only shoot aged related content which is fashion, portrait and swimwear.
What should I wear for the shoot?
Bump shoot clothes are whatever you feel comfortable wearing but the more the clothes reveal the bump, the better. We shoot ladies in underwear, nighties, white shirts or even T-shirts. Cropped tops are good too.
What about my hair and make-up?
Most girls do their own hair and make up but I can supply a hair and make-up artist (MUA) if required. These services are extra and are payable directly to the make-up artist. If you do your own make-up, I would advise on being a little stronger with the application than you would normally as the studio lights are powerful and bright and stronger make-up comes out great.
Do I have to get to my underwear or beyond?
No! The shoot is about you and your requirements! We do whatever you feel comfortable with. Clothed, semi-clothed and nude is your choice but I always shoots with long lenses which gives a good working distance and is never close to you so you might find being in your underwear is not as daunting as it might seem and will show off your figure to its best. There's absolutely no need to worry about being photographed by a man either! I can supply plenty of references from previous portfolio shoots if you require any reassurance.
What kind of backgrounds are available?
The studio is a modern bright space and we will normally shoot on various paper background rolls (black, white, grey, cherry) and use differnt chairs or other props. I may also get you in one of the large, oval topped windows if its a sunny day, or if you can get to the studio during the weekdays, I have the use of the large house that is attached to the studio so we can shoot in the bedrooms, spiral staricase or fabulous bathroom (see slideshow or gallery for examples).
Can I bring a friend or chaperone?
Absolutely! If you are more comfortable with a friend being present then that is fine by me, though it is often my experience that having someone present may prevent you from realxing as you might feel unable to really give it the Vogue pose while someone is watching you!
How do I choose the images?
After the shoot, I will edit the images and present a selection on a private web gallery for your viewing. You can choose your images from here or, if you wish, you can come down to the studio and go through the images with me and I can give you my professional opinion on which images are the best and how we might retouch them.
What options for the images are there?
Gosh! Where do we start? Canvas wraps, acryllic block, box frames, bespoke frames, sumptuous albums - we do the lot! Ask to see some samples. After editing, your images will be placed on a private web gallery where you can choose the images you want, but as an experienced image maker, John can advise on which images will look the best and how they could be presented. We are here to help, so just ask if there's anything specific that you would like. Enlargement options start from as little as £50
