A North Yorkshire wedding today for a change on what was a very mixed day with blustery showers, hailstones and sunshine! Alex and Louise were married at St Giles' Church, Copmanthorpe before moving on to the reception venue at The Parsonage, York where Louise braved the cold for the wedding photography. Wind is always a problem as hair and veils get blown around, but just as Louise posed in front of the car, a lucky gust of wind blew the veil out behind her in a far more elegant way than I ever could have staged!

Budding actor Stuart arrived at the studio for a headshot shoot to update his portfolio and get some new images to send to the casting agents. I went for a lot of low key shots to start with and then we ended up with some general lifestyle shots around the studio.

Today I did a fashion and beauty shoot with Kelly Tame and Nat Gardner (no relation!) on location in Dewsbury. The aim was to create some magazine style beauty shots with the aid of hair and makeup artist Lyndsey Ward. Most of the shots here done with a single light with beauty dish attached which gives a lovely soft glow to the light and lifts the shadows.

Decided to nip over to Castleford to have a go at shooting the Millenium bridge. I've seen lots of shots of it but, despite driving past on several occasions, hadn't actually noticed it. So, I set off on a mission to photograph it and it turned out not to be too easy to do. In the end I opted for shots of Allinson's mill using the bridge as a frame. Here's a couple from the half hour or so I spent on the bridge.

It's been a busy few weeks finishing wedding albums but the weather has been great and spring is definately on its way. Speaking with my nature photographer's hat on, it's getting to be a very busy period. so I've been sloping off shooting some wildlife, namely short-eared owls and also a quick trip to the New Forrest to photograph the elusive Dartford warbler. I don't intend to fill this blog with nature images, more of that over on wildscenes.com, but here's a couple just to show that I've not been idle over the last few days.

Laura came down to the studio for a lingerie/boudoir shoot. Although not having done this before she soon relaxed and enjoyed the session and we ended up with a variety of shots, including some nice low key images for her portfolio.

Shooting a commission for the National Trust at Nostell Priory National enabled me to use my new 24mm PC-E tilt and shift lens to its advantage. A low viewpoint on the snowdrops gave a good base and focal point to the image, while a small amount of tilt allowed me to pull the house into sharp focus too. I've loads of ideas for using this new lens so keep checking back to see the images that result.

A frustrating week at the end of February trying to get a viewpoint image for a further commission from the Ramblers Association of the Norber erratics above Austwick. Despite some great sunny weather in the valleys, the tops remained fog bound every time I visted. In the end, due to publication deadlines, we went with this moody shot taken at dusk.
